ok, ok, its more of a preview :D hehe

but its full of interesting numbers and details.
one thing i really dont like is how they only benched with 4aa, making everybody think they get a 50%+ boost wich most people wont even get close to it...

MY thoughts on these benches .. do not get the 6600GT ! It runs out of memory / memory bandwidth at high resolutions comapred to a single 6800.

The SLI 6800 looks tasty though.

So you're saying most people that own these cards don't use AA?

wow, 50% increase with SLI

it's always nice to know, that you could hook up a 2nd video card , it's another good option. I had a Monster3d Voodoo2 with SLI , but it was slightly different than Nvidia SLI. However it did run Quake like a dream.

My thoughts on SLI if they are worth anything to you.

According to this Anandtech article (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2258) 2 6600GT (in SLI) perform very similar to a single 6800GT. For argument's sake let's say that they perform exactly the same.

6600GT can be had for 197USD from newegg. A 6800GT (AGP, but assume PCI-Express card is same price) costs 399.99. These are the lowest prices on newegg.

So, 2 6600GT in SLI cost and perform the same as a single 6800GT. This is like having 2 smaller horses that together eat the same amount of hay and do the same amount of work than 1 bigger horse. Of course, the two smaller horses require more space than the one single bigger horse.

One way that people think is to get the 6600GT now (for 200USD) and another later when the single card will not be as good. So, let's say one year later, the 6600GT cards go for 100USD and the 6800GT go for 300USD (I am sure it will be more like 250-275USD).

This gives you a choice, assuming that you have SLI hardware right now to either spend 400USD for 6800GT or for 2 6600GT right now, or 300USD later.

2 6600GTs also need more power than a single 6800GT, take up more space and produce more heat.

Only type of person who would want SLI for it's "bang for the buck" value is someone who cannot afford to spend 400USD right now, but can afford 200USD and will be able to afford another 100USD a year later and has a very "slow" video card.

Yeah but the theroy goes to Hell when you find out the price of an SLI Mobo !

Hey, it's only money and I'd be glad to spend it for ya...

Beenthere, i think you're mistaking this forum for another one. Here is the URL for you pleasure www.pplwhodontliketogameorbenchmarkandsavetheirmon eytobuyuselessstuffinsteadofSLI.com j/k
I will have to get SLI myself, seems like a nice way to get mad performance. Especially if you buy one first then follow up with another one.

Saaya, if you have SLI you run a high resulotion and AA and AF.
To quote futurama: "This TV has better resolution than the real world" :toast:

Lol i clicked your link Cranks :P
I think SLi is gonna be great, i mean 1 is good but 2 must be better :) And to all those who are like -" its so expensive".. Look at all the FX and EE owners... do they _really_ care ? My guess is that they have enough money to buy 2 cards..(heck most of em do!)

I think SLI is interesting.

I agree with saaya that those benches were run with AA to make SLI look good, but they are still impressive numbers none the less..

Other thing to note is resale value.. trying to sell 2 slower cards will be much harder than selling one fast one.. I think buying two 6600 will be a bad move, compared to buying one 6800. Unless you are poor and can only afford one 6600, and then have to save for the other.. but then why buy an expensive SLI board?

I think SLI will only be for the performance freaks where money is little or no object..

No doubt. It will be like the overclocking scene... just a small niche market and not where companies make their bread-and-butter.

and it basically lets them claim the no1 scores in all benchmarks wich sells cards....

i play games with low resolution (10x7) and high AA and AF, i find that makes em look better than high res and no AA

That's a good point on that score that is more than double the single card performance, how do you manage to more than double the score ?

I have 6xAA enabled permanently...no reason to shut it off...

It makes a world of difference.

Do you use normal or Temporal? I used to use plane AA, but man, Temporal AA just rocks, you can actually use a tweaker(ATI Tray Tools) to change the Temporal setting to 1.5x/2x/3x so you can use 6x/12x/18x AA with Temporal enabled at the performance cost of 2/4/6 !! its amazing :D

The only drawback is you need to use Vsync, but if you have a large CRT(I use a 22 incher) you can force Vsync to 100hz or whatever you like, for silky smooth 100+ fps in games!

I don't know about AA but I'm sure the great majority of people do not regularly game at 1600x1200. If you spend the money to buy 2 6800s and a SLI mobo, I suppose you'd be obligated to try it out  For many, it would also require a monitor upgrade.

those who can afford 2x6800u im sure can afford a 22+ inch monitor :D

This developments make me sad, cause you need tons of money for these systems and i am just a poor little fella :(

If I only I had more euros...
