View Full Version : Is A64 0432 v0.6/v2.6 Strained Silicon?

After seeing Dagalidis results with his NC 0432 v0.6 and my own CH 0432 v2.6, then perhaps Strained Silicon is really being used on non WC CPUs.

I think, that if the CPU is 0432 and v?.6, then no matter the if it a CH, NC, or WC, then SS has been used.

It is a wildshot, but others has suggested it as well and why not make a thread, so it can be made certain if this is true or not. I think, SS and 13nm is a perfect combo, if it really being used :)

Either, some of us has been lucky with our 0432 v?.6(if that is even related) or SS has and is being used in all 0432 CPUs.

If it is the later, then it is obvious how it could affect a future purchase.

So if people would be kind to get Central Brain Identifier or other program that can read the version, then read your number and report the results with your CPU. Also include as many details as possible like cooling etc.

I go first:

3700+ 0432 v2.6

Can crunch M32 at v1.69(1.5x1.13) 12x250.82mhz / 3009.78mhz 3xHTT(PR 4600+). Best stable-enough-for-screenshot-without-failure at 3.2ghz :D

I use LS for cooling.

What is strained silicon and what does it mean to me, as in... like what does is improve? Sorry if thats a noobish question

AMD announced that they used "localized" strained silicon on the FX-55 to allow it to run at 2.6 Gig. by default. There are several types of strained silicon but the use of this material is to reduce electrical leakage thus allowing higher CPU speeds and sometimes lower power consumption. The speculation is that AMD may have used it on earlier versions beginning with week 32 of 2004, not just in the FX-55, because some of these chips O/C well.

Everyone with week 30+ AMD64 CPU please tell us your week, full stepping code and run Central Brain Identifier and tell us the version with CBI reports and post screen.
And your OC ;)

Would be nice if SS was used on all week 32+ CPU :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:

hmm, strained silicon is what intel used for the prescott. interesting to hear that AMD is gonna use the same process.

Intel's different from AMD's. Intel's "their own creation" while AMD had help from IBM I believe. IBM had a different approach to SS. When its used onthe whole die heat goes up, but if its used only on part of the die or the section that needs it to achieve a certain speed it doesn't cause such a high amount of heat. AMD's is more effient and more thought out than Intel's in my opion.

My own CDI, exactly the same CPU as Eva2000:

32M stable - 12 x 250mhz / 3ghz - 250mhz HTT x 4 / 1ghz HTL

my week 33 FX53 is a V2.6 chip and overclocks very nicely. Not quite as good as the FX55, but good enough for me. 2.7 on air and 3.2 in a 507 modded Mach I.

Dunno if this is due to strained silicon or just overall improvements in the 0.13um process.
Either way it just means better overclocks for us all :D

Here is my FX-53, its a 0425, I have sucky mobo and cant overclock it any :|
I will get though MSI K8N and FX-55 soon ;)

I am not sure the week number of my 3400+ CG Clawhammer but I do know that its only version 2.5 reported by CBID...its prolly not week 32 or later.
I get about 2.5ghz on 1.7v air cooled so far....not too bad, but not spectacular like some of these SS chips.
