View Full Version : How can I effectively OC and bench using 3dmark03?

I want to go for high scores in 03, but at high GFX memory speeds the score is LOWER. I can easily OC high but my scores go down after a certain point.

Well, list your hardware

X800 pro (maxes out at 550/603
2x 512 Corsair XMS (maxes out at 223 :()
A64 3400+
Lanparty UT

I basically run it at 2.4 (220x11 at 1.8V) all the time now.

Im the wrong person for AMD OC advice

beef up heat sinks and fans?

no, my question is why do my scores get LOWER if I OC the video card more? The proc is fine, it can do even more but I leave it at 2.4. Even at stock speeds 3d03 exhibits the same behavior towards video card OCing.

does you get artifacts? if you o/c it too far you'll start having having errors from ocing too high on ur v/c which will decrease your score

nah no artifacts, just a lower score. And its all fine in 3dmark 01 and 05, IE, the score keeps going up as I OC more.

im seeing what your getting also. I think my OC utility is broke. I clock my memory higher, no artifacts but my score goes down drastically. I clock my card @ 1250 memory and i get 11800 in 3dmark 2003 if i drop it down to 1200memory i get 12,700.

I've been a ati fanboy so long. I switched to a 6800 and not used to tweaking a nvidia since my ti4600!!

same thing happens on my 5900u @ 540/950 I can get bout 6700, and at 540/1000 I get 5400. 3dmark 01 scores are normal, and its totally stable.

your clocking your card to high... thats most likely it... it could be the gpu thats clocked to high...

its normal that you can reach a certain gpu max and a certain memory max, but if you oc memory and gou you cant reach the max on both anymore.

i think your gpu is getting too stressed when you oc it together with your videomemory, it eventually doesnt get enough vgpu or it fluctuates too much and therefor clocks itself back to stock or it skips some frames wich results in lower scores...

sounds reasonable :)

better cooling of the power circuity of your card can improve this, and slightly rising the rails should also help, but only do this after you added a fan or some heatsinks as higher rails stress the card even more, and they are running very hot at stock afaik.

other than that a vgpu mod will def help you :D

try a pencil mod for starters, but be carefull!

ill run the system with chilled air tomorrow, see if that helps
