Hey there guys,
I have been overclocking for about a year now and feel I have a fairly good grasp of whats what.
When it comes to RAM timings I know I want 2-2-2-5/11 ideally at 1:1 in whatever setup (intel/amd) I have.
I know that tighter timings are better and generally yeild better MEM Bandwidth.
However, I have never seen any actual comparisons on the same system. I have heard that AMD require better timings than Intel but again Ive never seen a proper comparison.
What i'd really like you guys to do is to run 3 tests on your Intel or AMD rigs with timings @ 2-2-2-5, 2-3-3-6, 2.5-4-4-7, 3-4-4-8 All at the same fsb of whatever you like. say 230 or summat.
Id like to see a game test (eg 3dMark01 lobby), superpi 1m, and sandra mem bandwidth.
I know this is alot to ask but im genuinely interested in what sort or differences are out there.
Thanx a million guys :)

On my A64 testing, this is the priority of how the performance changed...
3-1-2-4... :) Basically, turning CAS notch down didn't impact as much as the other 2 values.....

Thanx guys...
Anyone else able to tell me what actual difference the timings make>? with regards to 3dMark scores / FPS / membandwidth ?
I, as well, would love to know this. My OCZ Performance series can only do like 2-3-3-7...I tried 2-2-2-5 and it wouldn't even come close to booting. I looked at NewEgg for RAM under the search of 2-2-2-5 and there weren't many choices, so is there other RAM that can do these timings, though not advertised?
The reason this question is important, is because I may be able to gain some points in 3dMark03 by just changing RAM in my current system, and then using the better RAM in my upgrade.

I did this test a long time ago can't duplicate the result's anymore since i don't have the same hardware, but i found the old txt file. Also, gpu had AA/AF on, but that shouldn't matter.
Test Bed:
P4 3.0C at 230mhz
Abit Ai7
x800pro stock
2x256 Corsair v1.1 BH5
2-2-2-5
SiSandra Memory Bandwidth Test
INT- 5419
FLOAT- 5294
3DMark01 - 15873
2-3-3-5
SiSandra Memory Bandwidth Test
INT- 5244
FLOAT- 5196
3DMark01 - 15392
2-4-4-5
SiSandra Memory Bandwidth Test
INT- 4934
FLOAT- 5001
3DMark01 - 15081
going to 2.5-4-4-5 was identical to 2-4-4-5. Going to 3-4-4-5 or 3-4-4-8 results in no boot. RAM couldn't boot with CL3.
2-2-2-5 CPC enable @ 225mhz
SiSandra Memory Bandwidth Test
INT- 5975
FLOAT- 5826
3DMark01 - 16421

thanx mate!!
Thats exatly the info I wanted :) I can see now what sort of real world diference it makes!!
Im about to sell my 3.2EE and get a 3500 90nm, so based on what you just said I think I may keep my OCZ Gold 4000 as Im hoping to get my Winchester upto 275fsb (3ghz) in my Mach II GT and will therefore need something with the possibility of 275fsb 1:1 ;)
Thax very much for posting those results mate!!
Anyone done a similar test on an A64 rig?

No problem :)
Yeah...so I see 2-2-2-5 is really what I need, too. What is the best bang for the buck ATM?
