i keep finding more and more corrupted files on my hdd! i was running a high pci speed, so maybe thats why they got corrupted...

the files are still there, the sizes are correct and scandiks says its all good, BUT i cant open them. mp3s dont play, movies dont play, isos wont mount executables wont run...

any idears how i can fix those files?

in some folders just 1 out of 10 files is damaged, in other there is only 1 working and all other 19 are not working at all!

scandisk says its all fine... i dont get it... i didnt even touch those files when i was benching with a high pci speed, so is it actually possible they got damaged that way? or is the hdd dieing maybe? or was it a virus i cought some weeks ago?

i copied the files to another hdd and its still the same! can you recommend me a good app to rebuild corrupted files?

AFAIK, unstable memory timmings usualy cause bad or corrupted Files. Unless your harddrive is running its last hours of use..

id try running default settings in bios, scandisking, Defrag? (Might MAke it Worse altho!), running memtest (check memory), Reinstalling windows (not a format install but a copy over install?), and try running the hdd manf testing software(scandisk doesnt always fix it)

mp3z are almost always not a big loss, but i would backup whatever files you can now (if you can that is) and see if you can fix the issue. Good luck, even if i dont have a clue on this, id like to know the issues as to what casued it or how you fixed it.

i installed windows again already... same thing... and the memory is stable...

and the mp3s are a bi loss, it was the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy in great quality and the cds are scratched now and some dont play! :/

maybe the product of a virus with the old windows installation? or lack of hdd-space, kinda like cross-linking errors within the filesystem - the mac we're using for video editing at the office does this every now and then - and there most of the files (~95%) could be restored. but that's mac.

if it wasn't any of those, well overclocking gone to far, i think ;)

I've run memory at suicidal settings with no corruption. Maybe your hdd has bad sectors.

You might want to try EasyRecovery Professional, if you need a copy just IM me on MSN or AIM. Not sure if it will work but its worth a try.

Re-Fomatting is always an option.

Personally I'd guess it's most likely the virus.

Try a lowlevel format.

i have to register on their site to get the trial version that doesnt fix anything but just shows me that the files are corrupt wich i already know? :stick:

pm sent :D

DONT use ashampoo to fix your mp3 files LOL instead of fixing the files it cut the 20mb files down to 20kb and erased the rest of it. and it didnt make a back up copy like i told it to do!

i selected 40 files and it only made back ups of the working mp3s and none of the corrupted mp3s it tried to repair and cut in size!!!! :upset:
