View Full Version : Cutting It So Damn Close

I been messing with my 6800 NU for a few days, constantly trying to break first shaminos big 29K record for the 6800... I stared at that record for 2 months now trying to break it :p:
then I finally did, but got so close to 30K I could almost scream outta the "GOD-Come On, just 20 more points" factor...
so I waited for a cold night here in alaska, cause my videocard is only air cooled at the moment, but a cold night in alaska got me 10 more mhz on the core, 5 more mhz on the mem, and let me tweak my ram even farther with A64 tweaker, then usual.
so running 455/1170 something, with my ram at 270 cas 2-2-2-5, and tweaked even farther with A64 tweaker, I managed to smash my 30K goal... but then 31K was so close I just had to keep going.
this shot here just makes me laugh.
it's just one of them times when everything came together right, and just gives you that extra little thing to make it all fun again.
beating 31K by 1 point... that was fun.
my CPU is a 3700 at 10x270, watercooled by the way.
oh yeah, fresh install of windows 2000 pro, no updates, directX 8.1b all helped too :D

nice score bro :) im glad to see your hard work paid off. Nice system you have.
That is xtreme. Its weird to think a 6800NU can do that :slobber:
:toast:
EDIT: Damn, you're pulverizing alot of X800XT/6800U orb scores with that 6800NU :D

sick score dude! that 16 pipe mod sure helped, especially in nature! know what would suck? 29,999 marks! I remember the angony when I had like 18972 marks with my ti4200 and was just stuck, then I got a ti4800se and smashed 19355 marks! Im gonna need a winchester and vmod my ti4800se to smash 21k!

Very nice score Kunnak, when I saw the score i thought you must have eeked it out ! Hoepfully I will be joining you about 30k soon, have taken off the stock heatsink and fan and will apply a nice thermalright SK7. My memory is particularily duff at 1140Mhz max though, good job itdoes not matter as much as GPU. Nice OEM copper heatsink on the gpu, am trying to think what I can use it for !
Are you going watercooling next ? I get the feeling the core will love it.

Words Cannot be described on how many times he referres to his darn 4200's..
But yea, Damn impressive on water..
if i can ever deside on my phasechange, id try to compete with that.. i might have a chance :)

And before I forget Kunnaks is a good example why nvidia benching is so much fun, for a 6800nu there are several different stages
1) Picking the right basic card that does the job. There are lots of flavours out there
2) Doing a BIOS volt mod
3) sofmodding to more pipes
4) Hunting through lots of drivers
5) Replacing the stock cooling for bespoke.
So that's a lot of tweaking and the result is a 6800nu that has breeched 30k and is still air cooled with a lot more options to go if hard volt mods or more extreme cooling is done.
That's a lot of tweaking joy for the buck. It's a great card the V9999GE.

yeah, I seem to have more fun playing around with these cards that are "just good enough" to get good scores, but don't make live on top romen for a month to afford them.
seems to be becoming a habit for me...

Gf4: You are NOT going to smash anything and you know it. Especially not just because of using a Winchester cpu. You WILL keep talking about it though :( .
Why not start your own thread that is all about your amazing score smashing...
Thats one fantastic score you got there Kunaak :slobber: and 270 5-2-2-2 thats just awesome :toast: Now go and hit the 32k ;)

Impressive numbers again Kunaak :) Looks like you've really tweaked that rig to hell and back....though I would expect a little more from a 3700+ & water cooling  Like 2.7+ or 2.8. Still, nice MHz, and that DDR is really flying :D Well done m8 :toast: That is such an impressive score IMO.

Impressive score with that VC on stock air cooling :)
Now give that heatexchanger some of that cold alaska air. Should get your 3700 up ~100Mhz ;)
I remember when i stuggled with my GF4 Ti, and............just kidding :D

the CPu does have alittle more in it, does fine up to about 2.75 ghz.
but but I just can't pass 3dmark with both 2.75 ghz, and 275 at 1:1 on the ram.
I can just barely scrap by by the skin of my teeth on a 271 at 1:1 but anything more, and 3dmark constantantly drops back to windows desktop with no error, just back to the desktop.
so 10x270 is the best I can get 3dmark stable on windows. but that seems to be pretty easy to be honest, it passes at 10x270 about 90% of the time.
the biggest issue at the moment, is just pushing this card so far on air cooling only.

Definitely, but i need to get my lazy ass a job (im 16). Probably an a64 3400 or 939 3200 next, then watercooling. With about 8 weeks of holidays coming up, i've got no excuse not to get a job :D

Haha, I don't post that much but read enough. Seems every one of his posts either refers to him and a ti4200 or him and a new winchester core.
I dunno though, you have to give him credit, thats pretty hardcore when the only thing you think about are ti4200's and A64 chips.
Great Job on 30k though, thats an amazing score. :toast:
Nice job Kunaak!
Well deserved :toast:
Nice to see ppl still bother with "just" watercooling, phasechange seems to become the standard around here.

Guys, geforce was merely relating a personal experience to Kunaak's. Its YOU who turned the thread into a thread about him. I don't want to see ANYTHING else written about him in this thread.
Nice work Kunaak :)
When you did the pipe mod on your card, did all the pipes mod fine? (like with no artifacts and stuff)

yep mods perfectly.
been playing doom 3 all week on it with everything enabled, running 400/1100 with a modded bios, this PC is doing 27,000 by default with my game settings.
it's pretty fast.
these Asus cards are nice.

omg, 270mhz ram speed at 2-2-2-5 . A64 3700 at 2.7g. that is very impressive Kunaak, did you use ocz memory booster?
Kunaak
10-29-2004, 04:44 PM
details on the videocard cooling is just stock Asus cooling, modding the stock bios to 1.5 volts wasn't enough, so I volt modded the core, and used 1.6 volts on the core.
Yep, I did use the OCZ DDR Booster as well.
the plain Vdimm mod on this board doesn't like to go above 3.1 volts.
with the booster it goes up to 3.7 volts before the board stops booting.

I need to let you borrow my EVGA limited edition you posted the deal on kunaak, after I flashed it to a ultra and to give it more volts. No joke, it's stable and doesnt artifact one bit @ 475/1250, I cannot believe it either. And i know im going to have to post probably a .avi on here to prove the naysayers on a stock cooled $325 "deal" card. Thanks again for posting that deal!!!
Of course i did pick the cream of the crop of the 4 i bought that benced the highest before i flashed the bios.

Kunaak, you mention that you were using the unpatched/upgraded win2k. I thought the SP-2 was the one that gave the higherst 3dmarks - or is that 3D01 only?

very nice Ted!
I tested the 4 cards i had and kept the best one before the flash. I still cant believe it clocks this high with stock cooling and just a bios flash.
Does anyone know if the Swiftech mcw50-tec Waterblocks fit this card. I have a 172 watt tec one that's doing nothing in a drawer!!!
Im wondering if i'll take a hit on the memory speed if taking the HSF off since it cooling the memory also. But i have some tweakmonster ramsinks around here somewhere.
Also? has any one seen any Volt mods for this card and hopefully have a link for me??
Kunaak
10-30-2004, 02:58 AM
the MCW50 will fit, but all 6800 cards have a issue with cold temps, where they act crazy once they hit 25C or below.
I haven't heard of a way around it yet, but I really haven't looked.

A small Update ;)
14K on 3dmark2003.
also got about 30 points more on 2005, but thats not that impressive, haha...
took the ram sink off, replaced the thermal paste with ceramique, and a vantec slot fan for active cooling for the ram sinks and got it from 1170 to 1200 stable :D
not bad.

Good point about the ram sinks. After taking off the silly thermal tape and using artic epoxy on my ram sinks they went from 1140 to 1280Mhz. Core up to 480 or so which means I have joined you over 31k in 2001 tonight.
