View Full Version : Overclock your brain

I was watching the discovery channel today on my lunch and they had a little segment about this study that was done recently that involved applying low amounts of electric current to the human brain and then measuring the subjects' vocabulary skills. They described it as "about 1/10th the power of a watch battery" and apparently the test subjects had an average of 20 points higher on the vocabulary test. Of course I immediately thought of you guys when I saw this... :D
Now what I'm wondering is:
- how high can we crank it up with some REAL voltage?
- how long until we start seeing people add their brain volt mods and vocab benchmark scores to their sigs? :banana4:

I get artifacts at 1.9v :/

I get 200 vocals/sek with brainsoft sandra.
That was with 220Volt.
Gonna put my head in the freezer and run with booster (380volt)

Imagine what OCing happens when you get struck by lightning!!

You gotta feel sorry for those folks who are stuck with a old stepping/bad OC'er. :D

maybe worth trying. But i think i wont go with watercooling oder freezing with my brain ;)
Where do we have to solder the wires? Maybe you have to drill a hole first.. hmm. Anybody want to try?
Imagine what OCing happens when you get struck by lightning!!
nah, that wont work. ovp kicks in before you get the killer score :D

damn! i wish i would have known about this earlier! i just got a new model and it doesnt allow voltage adjustments. anybody got any links to some vmods?
maybe all those people with tinfoil hats arent crazy after all, maybe they just needed better cooling! :p:

Now you know the real reason for those beer hats like Homer has.

I don't really know how reliable this test is. It seems like a cool idea, but think about how they were measuring it. Was it just like 100 random people, 50 with voltmods 50 without? or was it a set group of people, and they just run them through different tests, some with volt mods on, some without. Either way doesn't prove much in my opinion. Another thing to consider is that it was vocab tests...

I think it work really great, words are coming out from you mouth in insane speed and noone understand what you are talking about and i just laugh at them cuz they do not understand what speed im on cuz i was normal before and now im voltmodded and can talk very long sentences without using any end of any sentence hipp hipp but it does feel a bit warm on my ears i think a watercooled waffle iron might do it just fine cuz my neighbour that isnt voltmodded cant feel it and he recommended it to me so i said hell yes and plugged the modded waffle but now my girlffriend thinks im crazy walking around with the waffle iron on my head with hoses and cables going all over the apartment but i do ignore her and just say i talk really fast now and have a better life so mind your own buissnes or get on the vocaltrain right now or stay antisocial for the rest of your life ha!

As for the specifics of the test, I don't know whether it was the same group subjected to multiple trials or different groups or what. I was hoping they would give a website for further info or something but they didn't
As for why they tested vocab, from the sounds of things the electrodes were attached to their temples so it was stimulating the frontal lobe which apparently is where ourspeech centre resides.
They hypothesized as to why this "overclocking" works and it had something to due with placing your brain in a higher state of awareness such that it was able to process information more efficiently. You would have to find the study for more specifics tho.

I dont think we should take this to serious.

Just sit back and relax ubermann
/begins to attach the electrodes
Edit: damn we just got voted off the island :x
Come on guys, this is a little bit risky. We all know that voltmods are risky where integrated memory controllers are involved :p:

I was stripping some wires on the end of an extention cord one time with my teeth when a friend plugged the cord into the wall and I must say my vocab sure did grow!! :D

yeah that sure would give you a boost in vocab. Words like gosh darn, goly that was a wee bit painful LOL
My motherboard only allows 250v so I'm limited.....ouch...ouch....ouch...falls over..
"We are gathered here today to....." "He died to help overclockers everywhere. Think of his death as a warning to others...never plug you head into the 240v outlit...stick with the 120s thats should offer a nice overclock as well."

Nice, maybe with some kind of special voltage the CIA could make people read people minds!

I tried slapping on a casade to see what clocks I could get, but the BRAINFREEZE!!! I almost passed out in pain. Seriously sub-zero is not meant for the mind.

Hipro5 is working an a synapse-maximiser i hear. His new design. But he prolly won't beat OCZ as their brain-b00574!!!1! is coming along quite nicely, Bigtoe will give us the info before it hits the shelves.
Ps: it works for BRAIN1 aswell as BRAIN2. To bad you can't run BRAIN2 1:1...
