For the first time in several years, Nvidia has shipped less standalone desktop graphic cards than its rival ATI, according to industry sources. The firm's market share reached 37 percent in the third quarter of this year, compared to 50 percent in the same period of 2003.

yea, nvidia took a big hit , and still is recovering from the atrocious FX series. They may probably never regain their market share again and former glory. but , Don't discount Nvidia's successful chipsets with AMD corporation, and with SLI and nforce4 , i think that will keep Nvidia afloat until the 6800 series can finally make it's prescence felt again. NV40 is a very good core, and improvements can be made with its scalable architecture. market share mean nothing anymore. As intel still holds 85% cpu market share but that is deteriorating very fast. While AMD is still very small but manufactures superior products.

Yup... FX series sucked ass... hehe...

But i dont think its only the hardware that was the fault ;)

And i would think that Nvidias biggest sale was GF4MX440???

But i think that Nvidia will recover...

But Intel is still the nr 1 on graphics chip market right???

And things always change ;)

Intel was nr 1 on CPU's.. Now Its AMD... It'll probably change around again...

I still think that Intels Pentium-M could outperform A64... Specially under xtreme surcumstances...

Dont get why they are sticking to P4... its freakin old :D

But now both makers are doing Dual core...

And Nvidia is making SLI... ATI will probably follow up but wait to next gen..

So were entering an exiting time ;)

Edit: XGI is also trying to enter the market...

And frankly i hope that they will get about 1/3 of the market each... Cuz then there will be more competition...

Now its 2 firms with about 50/50...

nvidia has ONE chance....

release a "next gen" GPU comparable to whatever ATI is releasing, and beat the price!
If the 6800 ULTRA was $399 and the 6800GT was $299 and the 6800 was $199, they'd sell jillions....after all, 6800ultra beats x800pro....

i like it :) if nvidia looses to ati, ati will stop with their stupid optimizations :D  and nvidia would then focus totally on mainboard chipsets and soundcards, wich they have proven to be really good in!

if nvidia fights back they will have to do so by offering a great card for a great price :D so we all win, no matter what happens!

theres nothing like competition!
