I have an Asus A7V8X motherboard. I used to have an Asus A7V133 motherboard.

My processor is a 1GHz AMD Thunderbird AXIA. It is unlocked with the pencil trick.

Now, the problem is that on my old Asus A7V133 my PC would boot and reboot at 1.4GHz without any problem. I could set the multiplier to manual and then raise it to 10.5X without any issues.

But with my Asus A7V8X it'll boot at 1.4GHz but when it reboots it will just hang. I have to manually press the reset button to get it to boot. When I set it to 1000MHz (instead of manual) it will boot without any problem, as well as reboot properly.

It's not heat, temps are never above 50ºC and I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 7 and Arctic Silver II to cool it. I have plenty of air cooling within the case. Motherboard temps are never above 29ºC.

This is mostly a jumper free motherboard. The few that are on there are for USB keyboard control, resetting the CMOS, and over voltage.

I've tried the over voltage on and off, neither has resolved the problem. In fact, over voltage should let me set it to 2.05V at the most, but that option isn't there after setting the over voltage jumper on.

I see nothing else on the motherboard that I could change. I see nothing within the BIOS that would resolve it (although I am open to anyone's opinion).

I've tried all three BIOS versions. It came with 1005, and 1006 as well as 1007 haven't resolved this.

Please help!

Well my first thought is Is the motherboard new?
Not sure if this has been really checked out and dont even know the board, but maybe it needs "burning in"???
Maybe if you were to take it down a notch then slowly up it up over the next week or two?
Not to sure really. Does sound kinda odd. Only thing I can think of.

sounds to me like the new board doesnt quite like the pencil unlock, probably due to slightly different voltages than the old one (and i dont mean vcore i mean the voltages that run through the bridges to decide if its unlocked or not). re-do the pencil unlock a few times and see if that fixes it.
