the mini fridge in my dorm room was nice and quiet, based on a TEC, but it was never really that cold (chilly, but not like a real fridge).

Today all that changes.

Opening the case, i was pleased to find that it used a 12v 92mm fan... glancing around I was also happy to find my retired 92mm tornado :bounces:

so i cut the wires off the crappy little fan, soldered on the tornado, and mounted it in the back...

only problem is that it doesn't really fit, so i just kind of taped the back on :stick:

temps before and after? :D

i also oced my fridge ;)
based on a compressor though. i insulated the freezing box on top of it wich was barely insulated at all before and only went down to 2°C. i insulated it and sealed it aritight. then i took the probe that meassures the temp inside the fridge and decides when to start the compressor and bent it. i made made the insulation of the entire fridge thinner on the side of the probe by cutting half of it off. then stuck the probe to the wall so it would sense the warmer wall of the fridge and tell the compressor to work faster and at hgher temps.

before the od the ice box barely hit 0°C, im now getting max temps of -25C when heating up the temp probe so the compressor runs on full power all the time, and around -15°C average with the compressor starting every few hours a day for some minutes to regulate the temps :)

another positive effect was that the fridge was always at 5C before wich meant it was too cold actually since the cold leaked in from the "ice box" wich was barely insulated. after the mod the fridge temp went up to 10C wich is perfect :)

I wanna try putting a watercooling loop and a 320watt TEC on a minifridge one day. Teehee.

i wish i had a thermometer to check the temps with...

but after disabling the thermal shut-off circuit (cutting the wires to the thermistor and putting them together, heh) the thing now runs full speed 24/7 and there are some ice crystals in the back :)
