Okay, anyone know of a simple retail GPU air-cooled TEC cooler? I had a Swiftech MCW50-T but I've gotten rid of my water in exchange for a more compact and portable case. I'm not looking to volt mod the card or for any super overclocks, just to keep it nice and cool for stability. I want it on a 9800XT btw. Are there any coolers similar to the MCW50-T except air instead of water?

Wow, these boards have slowed way down... I've been looking around but I can't seem to find any pre-made air TECs for GPU... Argh!

why dont u just build one yourself.... just use a normal CPU cooler and slap a pelt + coldplate....

Because I'm very limited on time and I'd rather just get one all ready to go.

Do you still have the watercooled one? Just slap on a socket A HSF or something.
Kustom rules.

You could try a pelt on a Artic cooling silencer and just try and replace the crossflow fan with something really high powered. There is nothing you can buy straight from a manufacturer like that.

If u want it for "stability and nice cooling" like u say just buy a normal Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 3 or something.... http://shop.freezinghardware.nl/productimages/1723-1718.gif (i know dutch shop, 2 lazy looking for you ;))
Why would u bother pelt it if u just want some stability?
Do i make sense? Or am i not thinking straigt? ^_^

Well, I like to overclock what I can. I figured pelt would be guaranteed good cooling with a little room for some overclocking.

How much better are these coolers than the stock ATI stuff? This stock ATI HSF pretty much sucks, heh.

Pelts are ridiculously ineffient with air cooling, please dont do it, just get the arctic silencer...

I got some pretty good temps with my zalman dual heatpipe cooler paired with a dual 80mm fan bracket dropped my load temps on my x800xt from 82C to 57C, mcw50-t on this card fetches mid 40's under load so the temps are really close to water.

Got a link to one of these? Perhaps I'll try em out.

Btw, I"m assuming the x800 series has the same mounting holes as the 9800s?

Yes this sink will fit on 9800 also.

I'll probably pick this up as soon as I can get some cash in the bank...

Hrm, will that one fit on my 9800XT or do I have to get this?

I'd hate to spend $30+ for a heatsink that becomes useless after I upgrade my card.

Yea that will work on the 9800XT but I would seriously consider the zalman. I had the artic cooling what and the zalman out performed it, only problem was installation took sometime cause of the heatpipes and plates.

The Silencer 4 will work you say? I'm looking for something quick and easy. I'm not worried about super great performance, just something to stop this damn thing from overheating and to maybe give me a few extra Mhz or so.

Those links are to the Silencer 3 that is the one that will work.

Hrm, has anyone tested a silencer 4 on a 9800XT? I kinda don't want to buy a Silencer 3 and then not be able to use it when I upgrade to the x800xt.

:D

but they are right, i would rather go for a watercooled tec or a good air cooler. get one of those heat pipe passive coolers and slap two huge fans on it and you will get very nice temps with almost no noise at all. better than a silencer!
