Hi guys. I found this old compressor lying on a fridge outside my house:

And another one:

It says: Aspera B1112A 123BA07 (R12)

Does anyone have any more info on this (hp, lbp/hbp, is it suitable for low temps)

Also, I opened the small black box where all the cables lead to:

http://img93.exs.cx/img93/231/DSC00750.jpg

I tried to wire it using a cable leading to the top three coloured cables but it didnt work. Why is that? What are the bottom four cables? Does it need a starting capacitor?

Thanks in advance

The start cap might be under the terminal block. I can see the current relay between the white cables.

Power should be the Top Brown and Blue wires.

tThe three top wires coming out of the box are probably ground, neutral, and live, but the comrpessor should also have a ground connection somewhere on it's metal feet. It looks to be about a 1/5 to 1/4hp unit, although I can't say whether its LBP or HBP or low/med/high temp, but judging that it used r12 id say its a med temp unit for a standing fridge/freezer.

Not all compressors need start capacitors (most of the smaller ones dont), but you do need a static overload of some sort, but its probably already in there.

It looks like there are four terminals for cables at the top, find the one with the ground symbol (small lines at the top leading to large line at the bottom) and put the ground there, and try the other two wires (live and neutral) on the other three terminals till it kicks over. I wouldnt reccomend running it in air for more than a few secs, but it should be ok because the oil wont get messed since its alkylbenzene oil which doesnt suck up the air like POE.

The way it is connected in the picture you see is exactly as i found it on the street. Although i changed the wire (cause the original one didnt have a mains plug on) and tried to turn it on but nothing. Also, I am sure the four wires on the bottom serve a purpose. Why are they there? Should i take them off?

As far as running the compressor in air i dont really care that much because I am planning to change the oil and/or use it as a vacuum pump. Of course i am not gonna run in the air for long though :) But first i need to find a way to start it :)

You should try to find a wiring diagram for it on google, I think that aspers might be a subname for embraco.

FYI...
Some of the domestic refer units had the start caps mounted away from the compressor.
So 2 of the bottom wires would go to it... the other two would goto the condensor fan.

I couldn't figure how to wire in the condenser fan on my compressor, is it parallel to the compressor?

Yes

I checked the original fridge where I took the compressor from (its still on the street) and the four cables were leading to a plug INSIDE the fridge. What could that be? Later on I am gonna search for a wiring diagram just in case I find something useful

I have a compressor from a fridge, there was also a plug where you can adjust the cooling level. When I put this plug off, the compressor don't start, with it plugged on there are no problems. I use this compressor as a vacuum pump now.
So try to get this component with the plug out of the fridge.

cold ice join the two wires together and this will disable the thermostate

Which wires, because this thermostat has 4 wires that are plugged into the compressor starting unit.

Oh yeahh. It must be for a thermostat. So what do i do with them?

Try to find out which wires are controlled using the thermostat and connect them together to bypass it if you can. Otherwise just turn teh thermostat to the coldest it it will go.

Ok. I managed to wire it properly. A cable had gone loose and I had to put it back in place. Although, i still havent found any info on the compressor. How powerfull is it? Is it lpb or hpb? Is it suitable for low temps? Will it take the higher pressure of R22 or propane? I need to know these stuff because if its no good i ll just keep it as a vacuum pump and i ll try yo find a more suitable compressor. Thanks
