View Full Version : i love airconditioners
all this from one air-conditioned :toast:
i think im gonna cut the evap into 2 as its too big.

for the first condenser I patched up today after work.
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17939
It pressure tested second time to 400PSIG
I plan to lay the condensor ontop like this to get max surface area to cool the compressor with the condenser fan.
And I hope to cut some vents into the box and stick the lot inside the box.

For this compressor im getting already for the day I get r404a
If that day eva comes.
And this is the backup condensers if needed.
Or for another later projects

My stailess steel hose and braid for the suction line today arrived, 3m.
I am getting them to cut me up some steel tube as rings for each end.
I cant wait.
:toast:
Just finished the renovate in the house
so i got some furniture
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17943&stc=1
I picked up the steel flex hose and stainless steel bits today
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17975&stc=1
this time im gonna braze it this way, no way its gonna leak
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17981&stc=1
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17976&stc=1
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17979
I filled a meniscus in the top between copper and stainless steel, a little flowed out the bottom nicely.
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17977&stc=1
And the first suction line ready and pressure tested to 450psig no leaks
Now to sand surface.
well its time i tried and made my system smaller for 24/7 phase change.
once the unit it temperature tested and set.
i am trying my hardest to get some r507, i have found someone near me that can get refrigerant, but he doesnt post much.
i would feel more better running non flamible refrigerant in this situation.
i plan to mount the mother board ontop of the wooden box flat.
i will mount the power supply, hard drives and cd roms on a shelf at the front of the wooden box at the current opening.
im going to have a 120mm fan sucking air through the roof of the box and this should help cool the stuff inside as well.
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17982
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=17986&stc=1
i have done two of the suction lines now and i think im gonna use this dd block first as its already been sanded.
its 50mm x 50mm x 20mm.
its 0.026 captube this one, i think it will go good with this compressor.
the compressor that i will be useing draws 1A at 240v how many HP is it?
i have removed all the copper tubing back to the compressor and will be running min 3/8 suction and min 1/4 disharge.
the old 1/4 plastic flex hose got a upgrade to steel flex and bigger suction line by far, 1/4 suction line is so small surface area

I really like your projects. They look a bit messy, the pipe routing isn't that well too (imho), but I have always the impression that you put that togehter in a few hours. "Hey lets make another phase change unit for my CPU or whatever." In the evening it's running and you're thinking about the next project.
I have to look around if there's a srappyard that carries compressors from fridges in my town
i really need a pipe bender i know.
the good ones cost too much though
doesnt matter if it looks nice, its wether it holds loaded temps.

They DO look like ass but I'm very impressed by the fact that you put them together so fast and that they work well. Keep up the good work

You can get a cheap 10$ pipe bender at most refrigeration stores. Their poorly constructed aluminum buyt they do the job :D
You're using the same stuff to make your box as me, its easy to cut and cheaper than plexi. I wish I could learn to make professional cases out of sheet alumunum and rivets, ive got a rivet gun but I need the know how and a few more tools. If your going to run the condenser like that just make sure it doesnt touch the compressor as it will decrease the efficiency of the system.
thanx gkiing im lazy i have only been to one refrigernation shop so far that i get all my stuff. they dont sell any cheap ones over here only trade ones
i got some wire clips with nail that im gonna nail to the roof and cable tie the condenser to the roof.
pc ice that drill press was a bargin i say, $65 and ya gear it down low to make the dd blocks and drill stuff.
but ya spoilt you dont have to make ya dd blocks anymore your always making systems for ppl with chilly blocks, i know if i could i would have the machine shops to it for me and even lap the blocks after to save some man hours.
well it fits and its working so its time to insulate and make a hold down and shes ready for testing.
i am going to stick a off set board above the fan big enought to hold the mother board on (bolt on bolt off style for working on) tall enough to put the power supply and DVD-R drive and hard disks. there is also some room left in the box so i give that a look too
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=18065&stc=1
how thick should the insulation on the suction line be, i got the wrong size stuff.
i normally use 2x9mm that fin inside each other, there ones done and i got 8 metres of the stuff all up damit.
so is 9mm too thin

i LOVE The way you brazed your flex line
i have to try that
box is 39cm Long x 27xm wide and 30cm high
well its on and now to tunning
for fun i booted stock and this is what i got idle
i think that changing the suction line from being 1/4 (part of it)
to straight min 3/8 has made a great difference

wow, thats a long suction line. I would say at least 1/2" to 3/4" thick insulation on the suction line
yeah its a metre steel flex and about 30cm copper 3/8
i think i remember pc ice saying that 8 foot ideal length, so its a little short
im hoping the high dip will help to hake sure that the refrigerant is boiled off

yeah im having problems with frost going back to my compressor, but it's probably because the system was overcharged and I was charging it when it was 5C outside :\
I brought it inside and now im going to let some gas out (the window with my long refrigeration hose) to get the low side back down. it was running 6" of mercury outside but now inside its at about 10psi.
gkwiing i have found that as little as 5psig can be overcharged.
that i think 1/2" is about 10mm so i guess that 9mm is ok.
i grab the insulation and it feels normal so it must be doing the job
cheers there gkiig
compressor is sitting on 55c after 6 hours
condensor was 32c just before drier.
how hot can it get before the r290 wont condense?
im running around 3psig anything below 0psig it falls in the ass, system crashes
and idle temps are -34c -31c prime.
so this little compressor can cool good, but can only really handle a small load of about 60w cpu. put a high oc and it needs a bigger compressor.
i have tried 3 blocks on this compressor, and endless condensors and cant get any better. -31c loaded is as good i can get at max oc.

Care40 (that's pure R290 i believe). Has a critical temp of: +96.7c and a criticalpressure at 42.5bar.
whats 42.5bar in PSIG?
i hate conversions.
cold_ice
10-26-2004, 10:07 AM
616.41 psi
ok i feel real dumb or drunk
but what does critical temp mean
and criticalpressure

ok i feel real dumb or drunk
but what does critical temp mean
and criticalpressure
If i got it right it is like this.:
Criticaltemperature= The refrigerant will not condense if the temp exceeds this temperature in this case 96.7c.
Criticalpressure= the pressure "created" when the refrigerant condenses at the criticaltemp in this case 96.7c.
Hopefully i have right about these, if not someone please correct me.
so does that mean that in summer if it hits say 40c and i have this thing going with r290, even at 40-50c the condensor is gonna still condense the r290?
gkiing
10-27-2004, 04:33 PM
It will condense at 40-50c but at a higher pressure, for 50degrees C its minimum condensing pressure is about 230PSIG.

good job mate :toast: are you gonna set up another unit for your 9600? looks like theres one in the pic
also, can you get clear sound when you have an open testbench? i got EMI when i was vmodding my kv8 pro out of the case

i have to look up the vmod for the card yet have seen a few but not the one for the gecube 9600XT.
i have been so phase change the gpu but i killed the last one due to poor contact with card and insulation got under the block and the card died, unlike the cpu is got auto shut down.
the system doesnt score that great though so i havnt done it.
i decided to test an old r12 compressor instead of the r404a for a few more deg c's
i want to make a phase change system that is low power and ok cooling.
its will be a hard choice between this one and the other r12 compressor.

take a pic of the back of the card and ill figure it out for you.
and i bet you could get the memory higher cause gexcubes have 2.5ns, should go to 850.
is this your card? http://www.3dnews.ru/documents/6834/geXcube-radeon9600xt-back-big.jpg
mine is the 2.8 ns, they advertised 2.4nS but when i went to pick it up it was 2.8ns.
i was pissed, had to get it cause had no vid card.
that pic that you got there is the same as mine.
do you have the vmod instructions for it.
i have posted in the past but got no real response.
-48c GPU cooler would be nice.

ill work on the vmod for you
well its finished.
-38.8c ldle at 2700MHz
so this one is a few degrees betta than the other r12 compressor.
its running 0psig/145PSIG
what size compressor do you think this is?

good job! pity that xp mobiles are rare here, on a 35w youd break 3ghz
i was really lazy and forgot to look for your vmod, ill try in the next few days
i think that you can buy them on ebay but they want a bit for them.
i really cant be bothered selling my chip on ebay and buying another new one.
gonna wait to A64 get cheaper
