This is a mod of a machII to a GPU cooler using a chilly block This is for an ATI. And what was done? The coil was damaged in shipping so I replaced it with a little larger one. The line was replaced with a copper flex W/O fittings 30 inch. The refrigerant in this is R402 (HP 80) as this will give a little lower temp at higher capacity, I also installed a sporlan sensor which is the correct one for the mach II. The repipe also includes longer discharge and suction so we will not have teh metal fatigue that broke the last pipe n shipping.

Looks very good. Looks like a chilly evap, but why is there such a copper plate on it? And what duct tape you used for tighten the insulation on the suction hose?

I wonder how many hundret dollars nVentiv / Chip con lost cause of someone from the staff forgetting what a ubend is. :D
Nice work chilly1 as always. Is there no way to fix prommy condensers ? I belive it can be done.

Actually the insulation has no tape holding it on I put it on before welding the tape is only for the temp probe.
btw chilly, what kind of hoses are you using now? they look differant than the granberry ones before. btw I remeber you said 402a wouldnt work so well b/c of its glide ;)

1/4" tube won't fit in there? Those look like 3/8" lines to me in the pic.

Chilly just isn't a fan of Glide :)
Think its an old school refer tech thing.
Used to use HP-80 alot. Hydrocarbons at work baby.
Sence been changing to One-Shot R422a. But its not as cold... so not ideal for this application.
what is the inner diameter of that copper flex line.
that is sweet having a copper flex line eazy to braze and no screw fittings.
is this a new thing that you will be doing in the future for all you projects?
well done again o master

Where did u get the flexhose ?
And isn't this condenser slightly smaller than the prommy condenser (not that it matters, because it's only for GPU use).

Actually the condenser has more internal surface area and it's rated higher. The flex hose is a parker strain felief connector from a local refrigerant supply house.

404 and 402 will work but the glide makes it very hard to set up properly. 402 does have a high glide and unless it is tuned improperly won't work as well.

Ya I can remove the second U bend and install the inlet there but I wanted to replace this one as the other also had flattened fins.

Did you change the oil also?
chilly1
10-17-2004, 08:41 AM
No, R402 is compitable with all oils. But the oil in the MachI and II is polyolester which works with almost any refrigerant.

Chilly1, I remember you mentioned here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34706 ) using a 12 inch loop of copper to the discharge line from the condenser. You don't mention the diameter there, but I am wondering what the difference is due to? The larger condensor?
What would you suggest to be used for the standard condensor with R402 mod?
Great work Chilly1! :toast:

The coil is 4 inches long when coiled up and that was for a specific application.
On all the prommies I now add 12 inches of 3/16 tubing in a 4 inch coil for the extra dissipation and strain relief...
On cascades I put a small coil and 120mm fan now as the extra heat removal adds capacity.

A bit of maths for the forum members :D
4" diameter coil gives you about 12" of pipe as circumference is approximately 3 x diameter. If you want it more exact its 3.141592653...... x the diameter.
Bet you never thought those math lessons would come in handy ;)

Well you can reverse the roles, the text I ordered "Modern refrigeration and Air Conditioning" was the study guide  The one with all the questions, and a space on each page for a grade  . So I have ordered the text book now.
So you can set me assignments and then grade my results :D :D
Regards
John.
