Well I got round to putting together my dual athlon box and had a really strange problem.

MSI K7D-Master, dual XP2000+ (L5 modded to MP), 1 x 512Mb Registered ECC Crucial PC2100 DDR, GF4 Ti4200

Everytime I tried to start the thing up the indicator lights would stop showing a memory error. I spent 2 hours swapping hardware out, trying just one cpu trying different memory sticks but everytime it would stop showing the memory error display. I swapped all the parts onto an Epox 8K5A and everything worked fine so as a last resort I tried replacing the 550W Q-Tec PSU for an old Ablecom one I had lying around (not sure of its total power rating but the 3.3v and 5v combined is quoted as 140W, on the Q-Tec it is 285W) and what do you know everything springs into life. Swap back to the Q-Tec and everything halts with the same memory error display, Ablecom back in and it boots fine.

So it looks like I am going to have to get another new PSU as I don't think the old one will be able to supply enough juice once I start adding all the other drives into the system, that is unless anyone has any bright ideas why the MSI board doesn't like the Q-Tec?
