View Full Version : heater core as a condensor
do you think that i could use something like this as a condensor.
i have heard that ppl say that they pop like a zit.
what would be a safe way that ya could recomend i test it before i give it a bash.

They are not designed to handle the pressures, try hooking it up to a air compressor with 200 PSI if you really want to see what would happen, if you are lucky it will just hiss, if you are very unlucky it will violently break apart.

Aluminum...
Is that by any chance from a ford? (I have a very similar one sitting near me)

The red you have will only handle maybe 20 psi. I bet it is rated at 15 psi.

Copper cores are rated to a few tens of PSI IIRC. Not sure about the aluminum ones, but I doubt it'd take a fraction of the pressure needed to condense common refrigerants.
yeah dont bother, besides the fact aluminum is hard to braze.

What about the AC condensors(or are they evaporators as they are in the air stream??). I have seen some in a parts yard, the ones in older SAAB's mounted on the right side under an air box look damn good to me. Always wondered about it.
Ialpooo this particular one is from a commodore and i would say that they are the same as the latest fords one.
i dont actually have one, but i have the feeling its Aluminum.
chilly quote "handle maybe 20 psi. I bet it is rated at 15 psi" that sounds no good
i dont thing i will bother with them guys, just though id ask before i went and bought one.
cheers for input
