Why the "coiling" in the discharge line?

In a single stage system its not really needed.
But in a cascade on the low stage.. Just a bit of extra desuperheating action.

Berkut gave my the advise to use one because of the vibration of the compressor. If you have a coil, or a u-bend in it it is better for the brazing joints, and your system is not that noisy too

Depends on the situation thats true. The mounting hardware, How stiff the coil is, etc. Most of the time discharge line breakage happens from transporting the unit around.

The expantion loop can go either vertical or horizontal as well. A lot of older condensors used a steel discharge line with a loop running horizontal.
