2x OCZ 520W on a Dual-Xeon (Nocona) board

I have some questions on using PowerStream 520W on a 24-pin EPS12V Dual-Xeon (Nocona) motherboard (ASUS NCCH-DL minimum PSU rating EPS12V 600W). Maybe someone can help

Q1 : What are the power implications of using only the 20-pin ATX connector + 4-pin ATX12V on a EPS12V ASUS NCCH-DL?

Q2 : If 2x Powerstream 520W are used :

1st PSU connected to 24-pin EPS12V & 8-pin ATX12V supplying power to the Board + Dual-Xeons + CPU Cooler

2nd PSU supplying power to 2x HDD + 1x DVD+RW + 4x Vantec Tornado Fans (via fan controller) + 4x normal case fans

Note : 2nd PSU is powered-ON permanently by shorting 2 pins on the 20/24 pin connector (forgot which pins, need to find it), ON-OFF is achieved by the switch at the back of PSU

Will this configuration be OK? Or should I just use 2 PSUs jumpstart by 20-pin ATX12V adapter (pic below) and plugging both 4-pin ATX12V into the 8-pin connector of an EPS12V motherboard?

EDIT : BTW, which of these PSUs would you recommend for OC on a dual-Xeons rig? EPS12V : OCZ 520W/Antec 550W/Enermax 660W? Are Enermax's dual-rails (+12V) good for dual-Xeons?

Are you asking what will happen if you use a 520w supply for a board that recommends a 600w supply?

Here are my answers to Q2:

I agree with your idea to split the load that way. Have one dedicated to the board and the cpu, and the other to the drives, etc. You can of course use the adapter to fire up the other psu, but if you donthave one and dont want to pay for one, here is a simple solution...but it requires cutting the green wire (PWR_ON) and any black wire (Ground) on the 2nd psu. Then what you do is solder those wires to the back of the motherboard where the solder pads are for the ATX connector where the green wire and a black wire punch through. To know which solder pad is which, plug in the 1st psu and just look at the back of the board to line up the solder pads you need. That way, when you fire up the first psu, the 2nd powers up with it. You can of course use extra wire between the motherboard and the 2nd psu if you need to.

I have done this so that my water pumps fire up with my motherboard when I power up.

Thank you for the reply. I guess splitting the load would be the way to go. Which would you choose among OCZ 520W & Enermax >550W models? Would adjustable rails (OCZ) be better than a > 600W PSU? Is it true we need >600W for 4GHz Intel CPUs?

don't you need a special power connector that is availible only on PSUs like the Enermax EG851AX-VH 660Watt Dual Fan Power Supply?

dude the 520 OCZ has the 24 pin power connector (for dual cpu's) and the 8 pin dual cpu power connector WTF is your problem? and why on earth would u use a 520ocz for 4 devices? get a POS PSU for that some cheap 300watt should be fine, unless u want the look..
