View Full Version : Memtest Bandwidth - am I chasing a white elephant

I have been trying to maximize my memtest bandwidth w/ settings.
For example:
2-2-2-6 gives me 1832 Mb/sec at 9x250 in memtest
2-2-2-10 " " 1723 .........

I need opinions as to How does this translate into 'real' windows performance?

Is this a 'real' value or should I ignore this and if so, what is a simple test to decide what settings I should be shooting for given the stuff in the 'sig.

Been :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: for awhile chasing this - want to know if I am chasing a white elephant or a :am: :eleph:

Also I am stuck at about 245-250 FSB @ reasonable vdimm (3.2V) w/ the bh5
the eb3700 has a slow stick of 240 max(3-2-2-6), while the TCCD can get me up to 270+ maybe at 2.5-3-3-8. Any ideas as to what I should pursue?
I am going for max general performance, not games or benching (I would pull out the mach1 if I was leaning in that direction).

Answers and conjectures please and thank you mikeE

Are you limited to 3.2v vdimm? What value in memtest does the TCCD at 270 give you? As for your main question, I have no idea :).

only way to know for real windows performance is test it yourself :)

higher memtest bandwidth always = better windows performance hehe

best i can do so far for memtest86+ v1.26 is 2x 256MB BH-5 @ 260mhz 2-2-2-6-8-12-2222 7x, 16x with 1T = 1953MB/s bandwidth

for me, my best ram bandwidth doesn't come from 2-2-2-5.
it comes at 2-2-2-7.

when I use a tras 5 I lose about 1/5th of a second on hexus pi fast, and about 30 mbs on sisoft sandra bandwidth test.
I've tested every feature in my bios, and A64 tweaker.
theres tons of little things that helped get more bandwidth, but also made the ram super sensitive to overclocking afterwards.
tras at 7 just made overclocking alittle easier, while hitting the sweet spot for my ram.

looks weird...?

I got 2411 MB/s with DDR421, 2.5-3-3-5.. just a pair of geil value.

or am I referring to wrong things?

you're on s939 dual channel higher bandwidth than us s754 single channel folks :)

We ain't goin there until DFI does!!!!

On the current note though, I see your 'relaxed' timings for EB3700 and the improvement in BW (44xx vs. 40xx) and like that alot since I want to play w/ video editing.

I wonder how high my TCCD will go now it has been burning in on mife wifes puter @ 200 for a couple of days?

Will learn this weekend :hehe:

Can't even do 250 at 3328, all else auto and every combo of tweaks,
vdimm up to 3.3. Special cooling, everything.

I'm doing tccd, had enough of this krp.
