View Full Version : XFX GF6800U not able to run at 1.2G memclock
I got my XFX GF6800U a month ago.
From some other users and local reviews, I know the stock frequency is 425M/1.2G.
After I freshly installed my WinXP with latest drivers, I encountered black spots and misdrawn polygons in 3D games and 3dmarks.
Later on with the help of coolbits, I check the card frequency in display property and it shows 425/1.2.
If I reduce the memclock to 1.1, then all the problems are gone.
In this case, do you think I am able to get a replacement from XFX or the warrant company?
I have sent an email to XFX support about this issue already. Though they said the clock is 1.1G but I don't believe as I did not adjust it from 1.1G to 1.2G!
What do you think about this? Thanks! :)
ADDED:
reply from XFX:
The stock setting is 1.1G, not 1.2. If the card is functioned normally
under 1.1G, there should be no problem w/ the card.
This is the information provided by our engineers.

You could go about getting a replacement from XFX, but they might just send you a 6800Ultra programmed with the standard 400MHz gpu and 1.1GHz mem clocks.
Both Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-150-067&depa=1) and XFX's (http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT40FUD) website display a speed of 400/1100 and the higher speed grades were meant for the "6800 Ultra Extreme".
Did your receipt, packaging, or any booklets indicate a speed higher than 400/1100?
thanks for your suggestion, too bad that no where on my receipt/packaging/booklet indicates the speed...
and i also thought that "they might just send you a 6800Ultra programmed with the standard 400MHz gpu and 1.1GHz mem clocks"... so i did not do anything more then.
i just tell by the default card settings and local reviews...

Wait so are you saying the card came with those higher clocks??? My friend got a 9600XT and after artifacting in 3D and other apps we checked the clock frequencies and found out the card was running faster than it was suppose to the ram was overclocked by 80mhzDDR. Its wierd sometimes stuff just happens like that couldnt understand why. He bought it OEM so someone probuably tried flashing his card and returned because it was a bad overclocker.
thanks for your info pulsar.
my card is a retail one, and some local reviews showed that the XFX 6800 U here ships with 425/1200 clock.
i have no idea of "what is correct" here... but i know i could not complain if it is fine on 425/1100.... i will get better cooling and try to pump the memclock a bit.

The stock speeds for the xfx ultra are 425/1200. If it doesnt work, send it back and request a new one.

Do you work for XFX? What is the source of your information?
Welcome to the forums.
thanks for your suggestion. i do think that the stock speeds are 425/1200, but the XFX support replied me in email that it should be "425/1100". I don't know what else to bargain with him.
Got any other info/suggestion? thanks! :)

the XFX website says 1100MHz on the memory.
your card may not have 1.6ns RAM chips, or it's possable that the 1.6ns chips you have aren't good overclockers.
thanks felix, i know the web says 1100MHz and it doesn't matter now as I have no way getting replacement anyway.
my card uses 1.6ns chips.. i will try other ways to OC more.. :)

good luck!
i haven't been able to get the memory on mine past 1.16GHz. I even have 1.6ns memory on my card. in fact, i get the same results with the memory heatsink removed.
the heatsink does not help at all? :stick:
felix we are on the same boat.... :toast:

the RAMsink didn't do anything at all on my card.
i just picked up another GT for $100 less that overclocks just the same as the Ultra, but won't do the 435/1170 that my first GT did. :brick:
you got 1 ultra 2 GT?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800_Ultra.html
"- 425-450MHz Core Engine Clock speed
- 256MB 1200MHz high speed DDR3 memory"
yeah.. i believe it should be 425/1200 here in HK, but i got no statement on this.. :(

nope, i'm poor. i've had to sell each card to pay for the next.
the current PNY 6800GT in my computer now might get sold so i can buy a X800XT. i'm not sure though, it's been clockin' a little better over the last couple days.

Back to the orginal question about the clock speeds, the top speeds for this card would be met if you have used both molex connectors on the back of the card, without the molex splitter, if you are only using one of them you will struggle to reach the cards full power, it has been stated several times that the XFX cards are excellent for overclocking but you need both connections used,
Hope this helps
thanks for your idea, but right from the beginning, i have always been connecting two separated molex onto the card, and i have even tried using a separated psu to just power the card... no help either. :)

Sorry but XFX is right.
The site you bought the card from is giving you wrong info
this is taken directly off the XFX site under the 6800 ultra section
Graphics Core: 256-bit
Memory Interface: 256-bit
Memory Bandwidth: 35.2 GB/sec.
Fill Rate: 6.4 billion texels/sec.
Vertices per Second: 600 Million
Memory Data Rate: 1100 MHz
Pixels per Clock (peak): 16
Textures per Pixel*: 16
RAMDACs: 400 MHz
400/1100
450/1200 is possible when overclocking depending on the card really everyone is different
http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT40FUD
you can find the info on the above link
Also at the very bottom of that page where it explains the power setup, is yours the same as there version 3 there.
thanks again, but as i said before, "i know the web says 1100MHz and it doesn't matter now as I have no way getting replacement anyway."..
i have been to the web almost a hundred times.. :)
i didn't buy the card from any site, just a local store.
the card default speed, local review and other users tell me that the stock speed is 425/1200, so it's not just me claiming that.
however i think the card can run 425/1200 with "FAST WRITE" off. a bit of performance drop but i hate seeing something failing to run at stock.
thanks again. :toast:
EDIT:
i have tried using a separated 430W PSU to just power the card and it did no help.. :D
