Does the 6800Ultra vGPU mod work for 6800GT? I tried flashing with volt modded BIOS 1.5v, but then it's less stable than 1.4v BIOS.

Is the single molex just not enough to provide more than 1.4v?? :(

What about vMem and VIO mods? :(

Thanks

when i tried flashing last only 1.3 worked for me maxed out at 415. what you got cooling it? straight water?
the mod should work, try the pencil first on the same resistor. vmem wont make much diff cause gddr3 is powerful enough even at 1000mhz

no, it's even deadly for a GT to set 1.5V....it has only 3 mosfets instead of 5mosfets like the ultra....so, it won't live long with 1.5V, but it will blow out....
1.4V @ GT = maximum for 24/7

most poeple i know cant get to 1.4v without artifacts and crashes. when i get my new board im gonna try the pencil mod on my card

lol, yeah, right.....y kill your card with a 1.5V-bios, when u can blow everything 3meters around of the card with a pencilmod and 1.67V ? :D ;)

i told it all to you....so, never come here and cry "why nobody told me, that i don't shall do give my GT more then 1.4V...." ;)

Damn this sucks.......

dude, do you know this 4 sure? what if you heatsinked the mofets?
and im not a noob, ive had a card blow on me before, it was due to heat on the soics not lack of mofos, and when did i say i was gonna use 1.67v? i may only go to 1.5v

I've put 1.65 on my aircooled GT, worked fine in 2d mode. In 3d mode it instanly crashed so I think it needs more power. It really needs that second molex at these voltages. BTw, the card has an OVP so you cannot harm your card.

I guess you get what you pay for.... This means watercooling a 6800GT is pretty pointless since max stable voltage is 1.4v, which maxes out @ around 450-460Mhz GPU. a silencer or a custom copper HSF can easily handle the heat.

My idea exactly, I haven't seen a GT doing more than 460 on the core. Mine did 450 with 1.5V, with 2d=3d voltages. That's a bit disappointing knowing that with my FX5900XT I could reach 660 Mhz (390 stock) on the core with plain aircooling. That's why I sold my GT and I'm getting an ultra now :D

no, not exactly true, the efficiency of a semiconductor increases inversly to the heat output. so with water, you could get the gpu down to 30c, and then oc it further, till it goes to about 50c, still being more efficient than air which would be in the 70s at those speeds.
but of course your right, if you dont already have wc, its probly better to get good air, cuase the cost of wcing only the gpu is more than the step up to an ultra. unless you wc the cpu too, then its probly best

My temps were never above 50°C. I have very good air :)

what?

pfff....

try this (http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip) and then tell me again, what your temps are

@ reject: the mosfets of GTs and Ultras are ALWAYS heatsinked @ stock

not all of them. the gt has 6 mofos, 3 big, and 3 small, the small are under the hs. the ultra has 10, 5 big 5 small.
actually when did i say they werent? the soic i burnt was on my 5900XT, and i was going for 600gpu at 1.88v. hal dols ard got further cuase he had a POV, which used the higher yielded NV38 cores

Mine also clocks less with artifacts at 1.5v was thinking the pencil mod might work differently to the bios mod, but don't know for sure.
On air the card could do 400 core and maybe 1130 mem. With VapoPE it went to 420 core and 1200 mem . Add 1.4 2d=3d and its able to run 3Dmark03 at 470/1250.
I know another guy who did the pencil mod and got 500core with his VapoPE loosely attached, guess it was a better card though. Both cards from the same shop same shipment.
