View Full Version : Athlon FX-53 or wait to FX-55
I have been following AMD's impressive FX chip line. The FX 53 was released earlier this year, any clue about Athlon 64 FX-55 Release??
I want to buy one.
I don't know if to buy a FX-53 or wait for the FX-55.
FX-53 it's very expensive now :flame:

The only differents between these 2 bad boys, is the 200 mhz, and nothing else as far as i know. And you will not feel any difference in those 200mhx, unless you are benching :)
You're right
I'll buy a FX-53, I've been waiting a lot.
Cooled by Vapo LS the difference it will be smaller. I like Benches, but I don't aspire to be in the ORBs front pages.

Well the FX-55 chips will use strained silicon and will be doing 200 Mhz more in O/C'ing hopefully. I think it was 10% more frequency headroom, to be exact. If you have patience - wait.
Neh, I be waiting for so long...
If FX-55 releases, I don't care, won't switch my CPU until next Q2 05.

The same strained silicon that made the prescotts space heaters? What exactly is the benefit of it?

FX-55 would be still regular 130nm hand picked chips.
only fx-57 is surelly a 90nm one.
I would wait for the less expensive 1MB AMD 64 3600+, and a DFI 939.

saw a rumor that the 939 dfi might be PCI not AGP hummmm
also what is a 3600+ ??? only 3600+ i've read about was a misprint when the first 3500+ came out for testing awhile ago.

I think FX-55 will be released next month which is October. It's very close now.

there is no 3600+ just a rumor. fx53 is close to a grand and will be outshadowed by the 90nm winchesters comming oct. very bad time to get a high end a64 now. fx55 wont touch the winchester except if you dont overclock.

From what I've heard, a 3600+ is a 939 pin FX51 with high multis locked.

Where did I say it was gonna be 90nm? I said it's gonna use strained silicon, which it will :p

Higher frequency can be achieved basically. Google it!

Approximate cost?

IvanAndreevich,
if I'm not mistaken, AMD strains silicon in 90nm processors, not 130nm ones. Since 90nm FX-57 is scheduled to be released next year, I doubt we will see strained silicon 130nm FX-55.

I read quite a few articles stating that eventually they would transition all of the 130NM chips to strained silicon and it makes sense anyways. Its easier to make one chip and speed bin it than to make 10 different chips.

Its not as if AMD will suddenly see Intel's problems.
AMD went the smart way (which caused about a 2 year delay for K8) and took SOI (Silicon on Insulate).
Strained Silicon technology will benefit, not detract, from the current process.
As for FX anything, I'd wait till the OC capability of the Winchester chips are known.
