View Full Version : Overvoltage-protection on GF6800Ultra ? HELP

guys, i don't know y, but my 6800Ultra don't wanna clock ONLY ONE MHz more with a modded 1.5V-BIOS... the mesuare-point shows me ~1.52V instead of 1.43V....so, the BIOS works well, too

but, i can't go beyond my current max of 470MHz....:(

and if i want to start Doom3 with a 1.5V-BIOS i got a freeze at that clocks (have to decrease till 430MHz....then it doesn't freezes)...

has anybody a idea, what the problem could be....

i heared something about a overvoltage-protection....what about that rumor...

so, i wanted to pencil-mod my card, but i'm afraid of the same results....and to make hardware-mod undone is quite harder then to flash a BIOS :(

Don't use the modded bios, a lot of ppl including me don't have luck with it.
Use the hard mod, nothing should go wrong since there is OVP.

hmm....ok

i'll try this (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=926&s=1) tutorial in the next days...

but i don't know, what i'll do - pencil or VR....pencil would be easy, but harder to make undone....VR is more riscfully but easier to remove again....hmm....damn, dunno :D

what did u do LardArse ? :)

Huh? All you need is an eraser to undo penciling what's so hard about that? :D

lol, right :D

but, i would be afraid and tremble by using the eraser at that small resistor :D

but ok, i'll do it ;)

but again my question: what did u do for a mod :) i mean, u have the record with 603MHz :)

hm, ok, i did it, and the mod itself worked great....now i have 1.678V with drivers and default-ultra-bios.....

but now i see, that my GPU is simply at its end :(

he can only do 475MHz with that voltage :(

but since today my GDDR3 don't want make more then 1100MHz without a nvidia-card-typical "throttle-freeze".....maybe driver-issues, because i flashed my card for tests with a BFG-BIOS...and reflashed it again - and after rebooting with the bfg-bios i had to reinstall the forceware-driver....

so, i HOPE that it's driver-issue :stick:

How about 1.6v how does it do?
Sometimes its the power consumption, you ge\otta have a really good PSU to push her, strong 12v/5v too.

hm, i removed the pencil-strock 15mins ago....

maybe i'll try to get 1.6V - but i don't think, that this will make anything :(

my PSU is a Chieftec 420Watt

3.3V - 30A
5V - 40A
12V - 18A

hm...shall i remove my both cd-drives for test ?
what do u think

or is my PSU to weak ?(what i don't think....but can that be, that my card won't clock higher with even 0.25V more voltage ? :()

oh lardarse - give me some tips....i'm getting crazy....

This already shows that its not the VGPU nor the cooling since its water.
The most possible then would be power.

hmm....so, u think, i shall buy a new PSU ?

hmm....ok....so...now i've to find a cheap OCZ-520....because, all shops in germany sell them for ~150€ (~180-190$) :eek:

so, LardArse, do u know, from which rail the GF6800 takes its power ? 5V ? 12V ?

because, when it would be the 12V, you would be right....my 12V-rail only has 18A.....5V is good enough....

Thats not the way to look at things. Measure one of your molex 5v and 12v lines with a multimeter when the card is benching, then u can see.

a ok, i see....it's the 12V-rail

idle-voltage:

5V -> 5.16-5.17V

12V -> 12.23-12.24V

@ nature-bench @ 3dmark03:

5V -> 5.18-5.19V (lol)

12V -> 12.08-12.10V

so, now i know, what to upgrade ;)
