Ok, so after around a month after my x800 dying, I have decided to fit my 9800xt and my prommy. Now, this involved a total computer rebuild which is ok and I didnt mind taking out my whole motherboard and recabling my case, BUT, now my sound card isnt detected when I tried to rerinstall my sound drivers after a sound driver error. ALSO, my 9800xt refuses to play Doom3 without red and white "snow" in a checkboard pattern. Like, one square of little artifacts and another square of heavy artifacts. On the other hand, I reached my new personal record of 4.78GhZ :) Any clues to my dead soundcard and dom3 artifacts? For the record, I have an audigy 2 zs and I have ati catalysts 4.8. Would 4.9 help? I have the installer right here.

XTREME OVERCLOCKING?
btw, try underclocking the 9800XT. Carmack said that D3 would use parts of gpus that have never been used before, so you might have to underclock because those certain transistors can't handle it.

Hmm, the stock cooler sucks. Idle 9800xt temperature is now 80C thanks to the MachII mobo heater thingy. Hmm, I might put my TEC on later. Also, any input on my soundcard problem? BTW, I thought it would be funny to put it in XTREME OVERCLOCKING cos of my new personal record ;)

neither does Xtreme Overclocking area.
you can ask in the Drivers area, but honestly, a gamer is gonna know how to fix gamers problems.
this topic wasn't right for the Xtreme Overclocking area, as it had nothing to do with overclocking.

True. Hmm, I think my sound card has suffered a soundblaster sudden death syndrome. :( As for my 9800xt, Im gonna try my TEC and downclock it a bit.

Ok, with 20MhZ lower on the mem and core clocks and the 4.9 drivers, I still get artifacts, not as many, but after about 10 minutes they appear :(
