Hi all thinking of getting a 3.6 or 3.4 prescott and wanted to overclock it to 4gig to 4.1gig but let me worrie about that need some memory help

what memory would i need to match this now lets say i just bought a 3.4 and i need to overclock it from 200fsb to 241fsb which would give the 3.4 a push to 4.1gig

would i need to buy ?????

1. Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 Pro 675mhz
2. Corsair 512MB DDR2 XMS2-4200 533mhz
3. Crucial Ballistix 5300 667MHz
4. Crucial Ballistix 4200 533MHz
5. Crucial Ballistix PC-4000
6. GeIL 512MB PC4300 533MHz Value DDR2

i just want memory to match the overclcok at 1:1 so i dont have to pay more for memory i really dont need

which is the better memory, which good memory would be the most satble but which speed thanks

i might get a 3.6 which would need les overclocking but thats why i am asking about a 3.4 as this woulds need higher memory to overclock it but i want to run the memory at 1:1

also how do you work what memory speed you need to the bus

also one more thin, lol would it be beter to get 2x256 or 1x512 as habving two is dual channal memory i can not afford 1 gig mem yet

sorry for asking but dont know how you work the memory out to the cpu

need help on this as its just as inporten as the cpu and i dont want to buy memory that i`m not going to use as i only want to get a 3.4 to 4.0 or 4.1

thanks for the help

3400 / 200 = multiplier of 17

4000 / 17 = 235

so you need ram capable of 235mhz

pc3200 runs at 200mhz

pc4000 runs at 250mhz

so some of that eb 3700 or the ballistix pc4000 i reckon:cool:

so i think i got it

memory that runs at

.................................................. ..FSB
PC3200 = 400 so this would be 200mhz mem x2 = 400
PC3500 = 433 so this would be 216mhz mem x2 = 433
PC3700 = 466 so this would be 233mhz mem x2 = 466
PC4000 = 500 so this would be 250mhz mem x2 = 500
PC4200 = 533 so this would be 263mhz mem x2 = 533

so to run memory 1:1 if i overclocked a 3.4 chip to 4.1
the FSB would be 17x 200=3.4 to overclock would be 17x241=4.1

so that would meen i need pc4000 is this right

question 2 what is the best memort to get as there are things like CAS

question 3 is it better to have two ddr`s in the motherboard or 1 as 2 has double data rate would this make a diffrence from 1 or 2 ddrs

question4 strange that you only need pc3200 to run it at no overclock and you cna not get it thay start at pc4000 whic is well over the normal clock speed for a prescott strange

question 5 which one to go for for best memory Cru,Cros or geil

On DDR2, you wont really have some better timings from 480MHz to 600MHz, so playing 3:4 is WAY better.

Take the DDR2 667 from whoever you whant, and you will probably have some nice 4-4-4-X, 300+MHz....

am i right above how i worked out the bus spped for the memory.

right the cas lover the better well these are the memorys i can get

1. Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 Pro 675mhz = 4-4-4
2. Corsair 512MB DDR2 XMS2-4200 533mhz
3. Crucial Ballistix 5300 667MHz
4. Crucial Ballistix 4200 533MHz
5. Crucial Ballistix PC-4000 = 2.5-4-4-8
6. GeIL 512MB PC4300 533MHz Value DDR2 = CAS 4-4-4-12

so out of these it seems that the Crucial Ballistix PC-4000 is the best cas am i right still going for the 4200 as it should be the sam cas

ok, so if I want to run my system without a mem bottleneck again, i choose Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 Pro 675mhz = 4-4-4 with 675? 675/2 = 337

337 fsb max, before mem gets trapped?

Get number 1, and play 3:4 that will only get you some good. Even 1:1, you wont be able to do lower timings then 4-4-4 or not much better that will be beating 310MHz+, 4-4-4.
