I don't really count myself as an extreme modder, some of the things that people get up to in forums such as this, are way too extreme to be considered sane.
But anyways, been trying to overclock my 5900XT, had'nt had as much luck as I'd hoped, compared to some of the mad overclocks I've seen people get on their 5900XT's.
my 128mb Galaxy zeus XT has default clocks of 400/700, so far with the default HSF, I've reached 450/820, but trying to push it beyond that created severe artifacts in 3dmark2k1, So of course I wanted more but the original HSF was'nt upto it, so heres the pics of the mod.

Its an old Athlon XP heatsink with a silent coolermaster fan,
Lapped to a mirror finish using wet n' dry from 600-3000 grade.
then finished with a polish of "brasso" (an abrasive brass, copper polish).
I then used surgical spirit to clean it completely.

My new overclocks are 480/860, I know the memory will go higher, But I'm still testing.

Its throttling back, and using a bios editor, I've found that it throttles the memory at 750 or higher.
Tried a bios from a Leadtek 5900 Ultra, but it did'nt like it.
So next I'm gonna try a bios editor, edit the original bios and set the default clocks to 450/850 and load that in.
Been way to busy to try it yet, house is turned upside down for decorating etc, so it'll have to wait to wednesday next week or so.
But if the new bios works, it'll be interesting to see what I get.

By the way, the heatsink is secured with 4 self tapping screws and plastic insulating washers (under the heads), the screws go though the 4 holes that surround the gpu, and I know the heatsink looks big and heavy but its lighter than it looks.

If anyone has a 128mb Galaxy Zeus 5900 Ultra, I'd be very interested in having a copy of its bios.

You need to vmod your card and then you'll reach 600+ on the core. If you're lucky :)

Like I said, I'm not an extreme modder, vmodding is a risky business, unless your 100% sure of your abilities, and don't mind a very expensive paperweight if you screw up...lol!

As it is..I modified my original bios(and saved a copy of the default) and my default clocks are 450/850.
That will do for now.

that looks nice. i lapped my a64 hs/f from 600 to 800 and it was really smooth (i dont care about mirror, just really smooth)
i got my gpu to 590 then it died at 600.
1.88v but i think somehow it must have got to 2v and then the ic fried.
you cant use any bios but xt for the xt. there are a million reasons and only about 1% of people have got a 5950u bios to work on this card.
but your right about vmodding, risky it is but thats where half the fun is!
