View Full Version : ARGH! Leaks! Leaks!

This is the most dumbest problem ever! Leaks! And no I am not new to watercooling. But having recently finished my latest wc system, I am not bombarded with leaks. I have used plenty of tape on the barbs, used small neat amounts of seal string around the base of the barbs and have fully tightened up the clips and firmly screwed each barb in place. The leaks occur just around the radiator barbs. and do not go away however hard I try to leak proof them. The other 2 are on my resovoir barbs. Has anyone got any xtreme leak proofing methods I could try? I will post pictures later!

Put the tubes in again and this time tighten it with metal horseclamps. Make sure its medium tight and not extremly tight so it wont rip the tubing.

Next get some electrical tape and mask it around the end of the tube and end of the rad barb is.

My einheim 1028 had a small output barb and it used to leak all the time till i xtreme clamped it and put black masking tape around it. I have no idea why einheim uses short output barbs.

You could also try taking a glue gun and glueing or melting the tube in. Although I never tried it and this method could wreck it all

I dont have leaks on my pump barbs although they are very short. Hmm, my horseclamps are very tight. I could loosen them a little, although the leaks were worse before I tighetened them. The leaks arent too bad, but the sealstring feels quite moist as if a droplet of water had spilled.

Silicone Sealer works wonders on barbs.
You don't need much. A little dab'll do ya.

This will work on the res, but I would have thought that you would solder in your rad barbs?

my WC'ing for my P4 system for the GPU + chipset was FULL of leaks too after numurous upgrades. I ended up having to Epoxy the new 1/2" barbs onto my Eheim 1250 pump, as well as onto the chipset block AND ALSO the radiator. They ALL had leaks at some point or another ...i tried repairing them all several times, but there wud always be a small leak, so i just said fok dat and epoxied them all on. Now no more leaks :D onlt the GPU block + home-made res. has no epoxy. So just glue the damn barbs on if it's a big problem.

Hmm, I might try some epoxy to seal the barbs in and then use lots of silicon sealer around the base of the barbs.

Why are you using seal string? You should be using PTFE thread seal tape...

I an using PTFE. On the threads of the barbs.

I am using seal string around the barbs, not on the threads.

Your clamps arent tight enough. Goto the hardware store and pick up the stainless worm clams and be done with it.

Make sure you get the right size clamps .I had leaks when I used even one size larger. They will leave a small gap that will cause you grief.

I'll second the Silicon sealant for the leaking barbs, my Eheim pump outlet barb would not stop leaking, tried Teflon Tape, teflon paste, neither sealed it, smeared a small amount of Blue RTV (silicon sealer) on the threads and sealed it right up. Epoxy might kind of suck if you ever needed to remove anything...

RTV isn't much easier than epoxy- I use RTV to make gaskets on big-block v-8 intake manifolds o_O

I wouldn't even think of seating a threaded bard without wraping three rounds of PTFE tape around it... live-n-learn

speaking of leaks, what do ya'll do when your block is leaking (not the base of the barbs, but where the top and bottom sandwich together)?

I just cleaned a block of mine hooked it up and saw things that look like dew droplets form at the top and bottom. Besides trying to tighten more is there anything else you can do? Anyone ever put teflon tape between the two block pieces?

naw man, your having problems with yur o-ring. I would reccomend taking yur W.B. apart & checking the o-ring to make sure it is not damaged & that it is seated properly.

Hmm maybe I displaced the O-ring when tightening the screws... I will check it out, but thank god this time I used a seperate PSU to test the loop. Usually I am a plug and pray kinda guy...

lol if i dont see any constant drizzle, i turn on the comp

ok maybe not... i leak tested for like 3 days because my WB wouldnt stop leaking... till i put on some 7/16 MK instead of 1/2 CF

LOL.

Silicon grease is your friend when it comes to O-Rings

I use gas fitting sealer tape it is heavier then standard Teflon and seals much more aggressively.

ok thats it.. thread is getting locked..

no more necrothreading!
