View Full Version : Distilled Water + Bleech

Right now I am refilling my system, I just cleaned the system by pumping vinegar through it, and I got as much of it as I could out. I put 1/2 a gallon of distilled water in, and about 4oz of bleech. Is this too much bleech? I just know that Keeper said to put about an eyedropper full, and I have no idea how much that is, since I do not have one. I was wondering if I am using too much bleech or not, the bleech is obvious in the water, you can see its color sort of throughout, and it smells like bleech.

my guess on an eye dropped full would be 1/2 to 1 teaspoon full.

teaspoons are the smaller of the spoons.

not sure how bleach could hurt anything its mainly water in the first place.

I wonder how that would work for killing bacteria and thus not having to add any glycol :D

OK, bleach is the WORST thing you can put in your system. Don't use it at all... it will accelerate corrosion like mad. Why do people think this is a good idea?

Bleach will eat away at your pump O-rings too...

How will it accellerate corrosion? i only have 1 metal in my system. i never knew about the pump oring thing.. i only have copper in my system so i was told that the best thing to do is just have bleach + distilled. what do you guys think???

Keeper says he has no corrosion and he has been running slight bleach for about a year. What would you guys suggest then? Glycol makes the temps hotter I know that for sure, are there any other things that wont effect temps as much??

methanol is a good thing vs glycol

YOu think that 10% glycol will make your temps higher? Haha, you will never see a difference. Use bleach and watch your rubber get eaten and your metal corrode.

I have glycol.. Alright I guess that I will use the antifreeze.. I just thought that if i added a small amount it wouldnt eat away at anything, i guess i was wrong. But at procooling.com it never said anything about eating away at rubber. I don't see how it can cause corrosion if i ave the same metal in my system.

sodium hypochlorate (commonly known as bleach) IS mostly water, the regular bleach is only a 5% solution, while the "industrial" (pool use) is 12% ...

let's just say that if you have a 30,000 gallon pool, the 5 gallon 12% solution will kill any bacteria in the pool ...

if you do the math, you need like a drop for a watercooling system, but that is still too much ...

ok, i guess that i will give it about a drop then :), thanks.

bleach = eats rubber
Pump O-ring = Rubber

I still wouldn't put bleach in

it will make your tubing "yellow"

just a drop will eat my pump oring?? that sounds pretty rediculous but i guess i wont use it, i filled it and it didnt make tubing yellow.. just a drop lol, i guess ill swap it out.
