3200+,1mb,C0 + K8N Pro + 2x512 = Whats happening?!

Hi there guys,

I have a 3200+ C0 with 1mb cache, a K8N Pro and 2x512 Patriotmem.

I can't boot the machine with any dimm in slot1 in any configuration: 1&2 or 1&3...

With configuration 2&3 I can boot, but only with with 100 divider and no oc ability...


With only one dimm in slot2 or slot3 I can boot and make a good OC, but not reaching the cpu limit...


Whats happening here? Any solutions for my problem?

Do nf250 boards have the same problem? Or is this only cpu related?


I had a 3000+ C0 with 512kb cache and I didn't had any of these problems...although I think that I was still away from the cpu limit...

memory controller on the cpu and trace layout to the dimms..all important.

try bootup at the mhz you want with just a single stick.. define every timings uself and the reboot / shutdown .. then ad the second stick :)

Its a 2*512 DDR400 issue.. your options are to use 1 stick or use the 166 divider and run 250 fsb. :(

And CPU limit?

There isn't such a thing in overclocking, CPU from the same BATCH can OC differently. You can only say u can't reach the limit if you bought this off another person who has done X Mhz stable, etc etc.

But yeah, try with 1 stick first, C0 steppings mem controller don't really handle 2X512 as well as the CG does.

I am around this oc stuff for long enough to see when I'm reaching the cpu limit or not, and I can tell you that the cpu limit is not near yet...

But anyway, I think I will be returning this CPU and get a 3000+ while I wait for a decent boards for 939's...

It's a shame because this cpu has so much potencial...

Can you enlighten some of us not so educated here to the forbidden knowledge of "CPU OC Limit". (SERIOUSLY)

my friend had a similar problem, his comp would work fine with 1 dimm but with 2 it would endlessly restart over and over. he did a search and found out it was his antec TP430 psu that was causing the problem, he switched psus and its worked flawlessly ever since, though his board is the abit av8 socket 939 and his cpu is a 3500+

I've already tried it with 256MB stick and it gave more MHz...it is not wisdow...it's experience...



Dagalidis: sorry my friend...but that didn't helped me either... I think I'm going back to my 3000+ C0, although it only has 512 cache, I can have it 9,5*295 @ 24/7..

A single 256MB puts a LOT less stress on the memory controller comparing to 1GB. That's the experience of a LOT of people too.

I had the same thing kinda happen, I have the same mobo and cpu but I am using 2x512 Hyper x ram, the only way I could get mine to work was using the F9 bios and using slots 1-3 and it works fine can overclock to about 245x10 with the memory running 1:1 but with about 3.2v's.

Any other slot combo and it wouldn't boot or wouldn't see the ram as a gig just 512.
