View Full Version : Getting a Socket A 2600 Mobile XP to do 300 mhz fsb

Hello. I am wanting to get a mobile xp and get it to run at a 300+ mhz fsb. First of all I wish to know what kind of work will I need to do? What parts will I need? Could you guys link me to a good motherboard and some good ddr 550+ RAM that will run at that speed? I hear I am going to have to do some modding on the motherboard to get the chipset and RAM to run at that speed. Could someone post a guide for this (on whichever motherboard they choose)? Or at least some info on the subject.

You'd be the record holder thats for sure. The DFI's are your best fsb bet but good luck with that goal. You wouldnt only need 550+ ram anyway, you'd need to OC to 600... no less! No worthwhile 5:4 here bro.
Any thing you could do to increase your chances would most likely have a drawback considering you must run 1:1 and tight timings are imperative on AXP. So if you got some BH5 or EB for instance you would fall short of this 300 fsb goal of yours most likely, but have better performance than any reasonable alternative that would still need hope and finger crossing for nothing but a cpuz shot of 300. I think last viking got like 283 at like 2-2-2-11 or whatever... that's pretty good. ;)

This is the motherboard I plan to have:

Will this work? With some modding of course...anyone have a good guide for that motherboard?
As for the RAM I recently found out that there is DDR 600 RAM. Im not sure if it is out yet. I am searching though.

nf2 Infinity only goes to about ~250MHz....that's the limit....
the LanParty goes to around 270MHz.....but i've never seen any AMD-board which did 1:1 @ 300MHz
and i don't think that there any will come out....

That is the lanparty? Link to the motherboard you are talking about.

there is no way to do 300fsb on socket A

Are you aware that the lanparty is just an infinity without the tricked out ultra-pimp trinket stuff? BTW a lot of ppl his 250+ on infinities and there is NEVER a limit to what you can achieve! NEVER! Dmytry, if you put your mind to it and go thru a lot of mobos and rams you just might do it. A suiciderun with BH-5 for Pifast would warm my heaty.

man its impossible 2 do 300FSB, the chipset is not possible 2 handle it! If u would do it U would be the first one :D

If it were possible I think Lastviking would have done it already.

Now granted ..This isnt a SocketA but its an AMD Based board
Socket 754...
@Dmytry...I have that board and ive been trying to hit 300
for quite some time and the highest i can get is
268FSB...But i still keep trying:toast:

seldomsean, that's the difference, A64 has no problem cracking 300. I hit 360 on my K8N. The new DFI goes well past 400.
I've never seen a socket A go past 270-280 max....

Yea ...I know what you mean and 360 on your K8N is just Insane
Congrats on that..;)

lilgator, u might need to check that with our good friend and my countryman last viking, he has hit 283 mhz 2-2-2-11

Kool :) I can believe that, 300fsb though, I don't think will ever happen...
what about on a KT880?
maybe possible

I don't think you'll be able to break 300fsb with a socket a cpu but you can allways try and if you break it you'll be my hero :P

Lastviking had 290FSB if Im not wrong so there is a little bit left on the road to 300FSB, that would be awsome to make :D

worst thing about it is if he does find that diamond board and the diamond chip, he will more than likly kill it after a few trys with the amount of volts it would need.

Close to 300fsb but fair from 100% stabilty

DDR 600 is coming soon. It will be a lot easier with DDR 600 memory.

No it won't. The chipset is the limitation not the ram.

KT880 might be possible with a volt mod on the northbridge. However, it won't be possible for another month or two, when the yields start getting slightly better. You'll also need to pin mod it to 200fsb first, to make it stable. Least this is the case with my a7v880. It's highly possible to get it with KT880, but it'll need more volts. The nice thing about KT880 is it's not like NF2 with CAS latency. It plays nicely with CAS 3. Also try and find a board that has the damn locks enabled. Soltek and Soyo didn't lock the PCI/AGP buses. ASUS did, not sure about MSI, though. You might need to use a PCI IDE/SATA card because I hear SATA craps out over a certain bus speed. Setfsb works wonders for it, too.
