Me and MeltedDuron were playing about with a Pentium II today and managed to burn it out. That gave me the idea of trying out the same thing with a prescott. I will get hold of a old prescott (or one which the heatspreader can be removed) and remove the hs. Next, I will start up the system with a heatsink on so not to 'splode it too early then I will remove heatsink and start up clockgen and crank up fsb to max and video what will happen. :D We are hoping to get a video of a prescott exploding in flames and splattering the core. Should be fun :D I will keep this thread updated on progress. Also, does anyone have a old prescott (working) which is suitable or a spare P4 mobo (preferably IC7 or P4C800 series) that you dont want anymore due to a bad dimm socket etc and want to help? Then PM me. I will get a video of the event and compress it for dialup and broadband users and post it on my site. I will also post the pics of the Pentium II later in this thread.

ermm ...do u get kicks out of this or something? or ur just crazy :toast: im interested in the videos if theres flames in it :D ...if it just shuts off, it'll be boring

I am expecting the motherboard to burn or the psu to short and catch fire (I am using a little 250w fortron on it :D). I could always pour a drop of water on the psu or mobo once it has started burning hehehe. And yes, me n duron are crazy. We purposly fried a Pentium II for the hell of it. Got a 250MhZ P2MMX to 292 without a heatsink or fan on the cpu but the mobo was completely utterly CRAP and wouldnt go higher. The core felt like a soldering iron but worse. And we had some smoke and burning off of it, but no fire as we didnt run it long enough to start a fire as we were running it on a wooden table above a carpet in a living room. Possible house fire :O! I lapped the slug (we removed the heatspreader and black packaging ages ago) next and used Stevil's leetsink mounting method to mount my maze4 gpu block. I will boot it up again with the Maze4 as it still POSTed even after it started burning. Although I seriously doubt it as I tried to pry the slug off with a screwdriver and I think I chipped the core. :( Luckily I have another one and have access to buy loads of them.

man u must send the video 2 Intel then, what happens wiyh prescotts on Xtreme 4ums. Try 2 put a BGA heatsink on the core, and check the tempereture of the heatsink :P. U could also try 2 do it on-line :D

i think it will thermal throttle, thg also did this. you gotta use a t-bird :D

I have access to loads of t'birds. I think a prescott would be more suitable as they are crap imo.

i think the ramsinks on the core is a great idea

but it will thermally throttle. thg did the same, on the p4 they were opperating without a hsf, just bare core n temps stayed at 60C

Excellent idea!!!! :toast: I think my belly will explode if this comes reality!

And all , users of xtreme systems :D

Sorry to spoil your fun but prescotts shutdown if the temperature exceeds 90 degrees celcius or so... as far as I know, which sometimes isn't really that far...

i thought it was like 112C that they shutdown at... but anyway they shutdown... no damage, with palomino thg recorded a temp of 240+C or so... lol

If the chip is functioning properly it won't blow.

The Prescot is not a P4EE, but to destroy a functioning CPU is very much like torturing little animals for jollies I think.:shakes:

I don't see the fun in wasting pretty recent hardware just for fun.

If you waste it by overclocking or extemecooling, well that's just the life of extreme people :D

but destroying hardware on purpose ... I don't get it. Give it away to people who can't afford a pc or something similar

THG lol. I bet they underclocked bus and vcore. I wouldn't doubt you could fry a P4. Would be nice if you did it, just to prove some zealots wrong.

What about when its gonna have 80°C put a few drops of benzin but realy a few coze I dont think u wanna burn the mobo also.

Well as soon as it starts throttling while used without a heatsink, pour some (~200ml) LN2 on the die and see what happens (+ make a video) :D

It WILL throttle.. I ran xeons without a fan for a couple hrs (using them in windows, too) and they top out around 80-85c. Didn't even slow down THAT much:p:

Athlons just go pop and smell very bad, you're going to be hard pressed to make a cpu start a fire regardless of how high you o/c it, unless you put like 5v or something into it and start burning the boards pcb.

Sounds fun M.O.P... but it looks like everyone has killed the fun :(

You can disable thermal throttling and the max shutoff temp on the mobo.

However... I think the intel chip has an internal shutoff at about 80C... I'm sure there is a way to get around that... Look around the net for some info on it... there may be a way to kill the thermal diode in the chip... then it can't tell how hot it is running. Or remove it and place leads on it so you can have it monitor the air temp away from the cpu ;) It can be done, I'm sure of that... Question is... How Xtreme do you want to be?!?!?!?!? :rocker:

we gonna try n disable thermal throttling somehow to blow this chip and i might try lappin teh core to make it explode quicker:D

Get some plastic explosives. That will make a big bang.

I don't think the IHS will come off, Intel epoxied it on now. It's pretty much stuck there now.

UPDATE: I have aquired a 1.2GhZ Socket A t'bird and I am now looking for a 2nd hand nf7 or nfinity2 to use. If anyone has any mobos to donate, pm me. :D
