Well, been waiting for two weeks for this guy to send me a stick of ddr pc2100 128mb that I won on Ebay. He sent me a email on the 16th saying that he was sorry, blablabla, his server was down and that he'd get it out immediately. Well, I rec'd it today when I got home from work, and it turns out it's no good:( The computer won't even post with it. If I stick another stick other than that one in there, it posts just fine. I've swapped several sticks around just to make sure, and it turns out that the stick is just no good.... :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset:
Wonder just how long this jokers going take to drag this one out??? Already took him two weeks to send me the first stick, he's in Miami, Fl. and I'm in Cin., Oh.. 2 day route. Every time Hardass sends me something, I get it in two to three days.
So I've sent him a email requesting how he wants to handle this. We'll see how this goes...:censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

lol :rotf: :rotf:
I mentioned this before but I'm not sure you saw it, Tweaked!. Win2k runs fine w/ that (1) stick of 128MB PC2100 I sent you. I'm not sure why you need (2) to get that box up.

It won't finnish loading the initial start up screen, If I remove that stick and put the 256mb stick out of my duallie in there, it boots just fine. Switch them back around, and back to no boot. About every third attempt, windows goes to the boot error page stating that the system doesn't have enough physical memory for w2k:(
Have you relaxed the memory timings in the BIOS? I guarantee windows will load w/ 128MB of memory, lol. It must be either too aggressive of memory timings or a power issue. I'm guessing the memory timings are not relaxed enough for that memory.

If your just setting up the rig all settings should be default anyway.
Yea, I know when I first put that stick in my 1 machine it wouldn't boot so I went into the BIOS and relaxed all memory timings and that stick then worked flawlessly for a month or so till I stuck a 256MB module in it. I tested that thing in a Win2k box just b4 I sent it and I can tell ya @ 133FSB - 2.5-3-6-3-2t & interleave disabled it will run stable @ 2.5vdimm.

Well, I'm not sure where you had them set at (Hardass), but I've cleared the cmos and chose optimized settings for the bios. That should've reset all the ram timings. I've been getting some weird actions out of that set up so far. The computer is currently setup w/ w98se on that 2gig quantum and it keeps reporting that it only has 16mb of ram. It is running slow enough as if it did only have that much too. I haven't figured that out yet, but I had it up and running and it looads into windows that way. Go into control panel, system, and the first page shows 16mb ram.
So, next question, Hardass, that board doesn't require ecc reg. ram does it??? The reason I ask is cause that's the type thats in my duallie, and this shuttle runs great on that, but lags badly and only shows the 16mb with the other.:( I didn't have a whole lot of time to play arounbd with it last night, but I'll dive into it tonight and see if I can figure it out.
What motherboard is it again that you're using?

Shuttle AK35GTR, and no it does not reguire ecc. I always ran standard ram in those mobo. Go into bios and check the memory timings. If you set at optimized you may need to turn down the settings like [N8] was saying.

Cool, I'll check that out tonight when I get home from work. I really did want to get it set up with w2k. :)

Ok, well, time for a update. I checked out the settings for the ram, and had to make one change compared to n8's recommendations (the last one, changed from 1t - 2t) and I guess that did the trick. It's up and running just fine now. So now XF1 and XF2 are both up and folding tough!!!:banana:
Both rigs were down periodically tonight while I installed Norton system works on both and cleaned up the hdd's and registries, etc... (It's amazing how many registry errors there are just in the w98se, drivers for the nic, graphics card, etc...) Xf1 has been trying to defrag and optimize the hdd for the last two hours now, and it just has a 1.6gig:( But, nevertheless, they're both running just fine now:)

Ok, Who is getting XF3?:)
Question about the defragging. Are you in regular mode when trying to defrag? If so, reboot into safe mod and do a defrag. 9x has never been very good at that in standard mode. It consistently restarts. So, it effectively takes forever.

Actually, its Norton doing the whole system check and optimization thing. Just that the hdd was really fragmented and scattered. Plus it's a really old 1.6gb hdd thats really slow. But it works for folding...:)
Glad to hear you got it working :)
