View Full Version : 61.77 cheating again?

has anybody tried the 61.77 already and checked for iq "problems"?

is there a review about them somewhere or a test?
can somebody please verify that my iq bugs have nothing to do with my card (g4mx) , thx.

i played far cry with the new drivers installed and am getting tons of iq problems.

many textures seem to stay at a high lod-bad quality, no matter how close i am:

many testures have a very weird colored corruption:

when zooming from default zoom level of the binoculars...

saaya
08-15-2004, 12:52 PM
...to the next levels of zoom the ground textures are all set to the highest lod possible, even the ones right under my feet:

is this a problem with the drivers, or is it the combination of my card with the drivers? the game looks just fine with other drivers...

g4mx@400mhz core 685mhz memory
1024x768
texture quality very high
triliniar
particle count very high
special effects quality medium (highest a g4mx can do)
enviroment low (highest a g4mx can do)
shaddow low (highest a g4mx can do)
water lighting low (highest a g4mx can do)

another thing! when i switch from biliniar texture filtering to triliniar texture filtering the texture quality gets notably worse!!!! and it doesnt look like triliniar, more like bRiliniar!

dude, its a G4 MX.............

Far Cry looks nothing like that with my 6800 GT w/ 61.77's.......its looks absolutely stellar. Try playing the game with a REAL graphics card ;)

saaya
08-15-2004, 01:17 PM
and yes, i forced triliniar in the drivers, and still set it to triliniar in the game as well, still its not true triliniar and the image quality is worse with it enabled!

if i force triliniar and set it to biliniar in the game its biliniar, so the driver force funtion doesnt seem to work.

i finished the game with my 9700 already ;)

i just wanted to see how it look on a g4mx without all the effects :D

it looks pretty nice actually, of course not as nice as on a dx9 card, but it looks nice.

could you please check again if you dont get any iq problems with your 6800 and the 61.77?

those drivers were never made for a geforce4mx, try using the 40.72 or maybe the 53.x the 60.xx are for the 6800 cards

I would...but im on the 65.62 beta drivers...which gave me a HUGE boost in D3:D

No, they didn't. They're just not actively optimizing for older cards with newer driver releases. The 60.xx are *for* any Nvidia card, not just the 6800 series.

I have problems with far cry too, but it's more of a mipmap problem, sometimes they aren't renderd properly and I get walls that aren't quite there.
updating to the 1.1 patch helped alot.

so to me, it's a game issue, not driver.

saaya
08-15-2004, 02:45 PM
but i dont get those bugs with the 42.51 driver!

edit:

hmmm i wasnt using the 42.51, cant remmeber the drivers i was using before, they had bugs as well, but not that bad.

those screenies aren't really bad looking.........................................fo r a Geforce 4mx. LOL

61.77 are 6800series drivers. so don't expect much for the G4mx. install the Farcry 1.1 patch , it should fix the problems!

anyone tried the 1.2 patch?

nope, Crytek withdrew that patch because of problems.

and those are jpeg compressed, the real shots even look a lil nicer, but they are too large to attach.

im REALLY dissapointed by nvidia though.

i tried several 5x.xx drivers, and even the latest have the zoom bug, the color corruption bug and the ground texture lod bug plus several other bugs. and NO, patch 1.1 and 1.2 both dont fix them!

the detonators are def not what they used to be anymore! now all that matters is fps

saaya

mmmhh the water looks yummy! :D

can you run the pier timedemo from 3dcenter and make a screenshot of the canyon walls for me please?

on all drivers i tried the canyon walls are just extremely stretched washed out textures instead of the detailed rock textures wich are supposed to be on the canyon.

thx :)

Sure its not just GF4MX thats    :banana:in up...

Dude its a DX7 card... I dont think its a driver problem... Just a problem that DX7 cant make the canyons look good???

Or am i lost in the woods?

I´ve noticed the same problems with a gf3 ti200 card.. Allthough I cant remember what driver I was using.. (the newest one for 4month ago)

Mini
08-16-2004, 01:05 AM
I never seen DX7 effects making good looking caverns like in farcry... I think its just that... If a TI200 did the same its only DX7 right???

You tried a DX8.1 card???

saaya
08-16-2004, 01:39 AM
believe me, simple texture quality has nothing to do with directx ;)

i found that far cry actually uses the system.cfg in the profile folder, so thats where i have to look for tweaking.

ive found a solution for some bugs already by manipulating the cfg, will post more results later.

pffft bump mapping was completely disabled

also my card seems to score really nice when oced.

pier demo gives me 48fps at stock vid clocks and 65fps at 400/685

will try 415/700 later ,i think i can break 70fps :D

go to far cry/profiles/player and backup your system cfg.
its called "your profile"_system.cfg
then open my cfg and copy all, open your cfg and paste it.

would be interesting to see what other cards score with my cfg :D

i get 45fps at stock clocks and 65fps at 400/685
1024x768 32bit
texture quality very high
triliniar
particle count very high
special effects quality medium (highest a g4mx can do)

hey ant1 alter :toast:

sup?

can you do me a favour and send me your system.cfg from the "far cry/profiles/players" folder with everything set to max details?

if you dont remember my email address just post it here as a txt or zip, thx a lot!

hows it clocking btw?

so you have iq issues with the 61.77 as well?
did you run the timedemo with high details or with my cfg?

I just installed patch 1.2 and it looks worse :s
I ran timedemo with your cfg and it´s not about the drivers, every driver i tried gave me those img errors.

here´s the cfg

rename to rar

is that the max oc on air? modded?
what temps are you getting? do the gts have the 1 slot 6800nu or 2 slot 6800u and 6800ue hsf?

lol! so my g4mx is half as fast as an oced 6800gt with those quality settings :D haha

water with 1.4v ultra bios + ram latencies are tighter with ultra bios
try running doom3 1280x1024 4xaa ultra high @55fps with your gf4mx :p

LOL
You gotta be kidding right?

All GF MX's dont have ANY programable PS or VS. A GF4 MX is basically a GF2 MX with pre-Z sort and much better AA and memory controller. Oh, and clockspeeds are higher.
At first I was shocked that FRAPS showed 77 fps. But you got everything but textures on low. Dude, you're playing without ANY pixel/vertex shaders. The texture problem is probably because you dont have enough memory on your card.

Unless somebody already did this, can someone do me a favour and benchmark using 6800U/X800PTE to compare against his FPS... just to test if Far Cry FPS counter can go over 999 ;)

saaya
08-16-2004, 07:11 PM
no, enviroment and special efects is actually set to very high now, the old driver didnt let me change it from low, but this driver im using now does.

and how would not enough videomemory cause those bugs and corruption? it would only slow it down as textures would be stored in the system memory afaik...

ant1 is running his gt@ultra extreme speeds and gets a max fps of 148 and average fps of 124 with my cfg, so its faaaaaaaaar from 999 ;)

im now tweaking the cfg directly to get better iq.
when switching from low quality to medium quality or higher there are several changes beeing made in the cfg. if only one is not supported by the card then it will reset everything to the lowest. im now tweaking the cfg to get bump mapping and stencil shaddows enabled :)

Must be somthin lackin if it dont show the textures right. Does your 9700 show them properly? Is there somthing like instuctions for cpu's on the video cards gpu?

I have a Geforce 2 Ti, who supports also only Direct X 7, and the "walls" in the pier level looks just like yours. I can turn everything on the highest, but shadows, water reflection and lightning give bugs when I do sow. I use driver 30.82, witch is the fastest on my card. When I use the newest from the Nvidia site, there are artifacts. It's only in Far Cry that I have those problems with the newest drivers.

saaya
08-22-2004, 07:57 AM
it has nothing to do with the videocards! you dont need a dx8 or dx9 card to get more detailed textures, LOL :D

yes the walls look fine on my 9700pro, but as ant1 said, its a driver problem, not a game or videocard problem!

im REALLY dissapointed in nvidia AND ati about far cry. its a really nice game, but both ati and nvidia have not a single driver out that works just fine with far cry! ati uses really bad texture optimizations i cant disable on ANY of all the catalyst drivers i tried, and nvidia has lightning, lod and shaddowing bugs.

i REALLY hope that ati and nvidia didnt just stop driver development for far cry because doom3 and half life2 are beeing released now, and only focus on those games. those graphic wars are going too far for my tastes, both companies are pulling more and more dirty tricks

yeah. thats how it looks on my 9700pro :)

but if you switch to an nvidia card you will notice that the ground textures around you are notably sharper! thats with both cards set to highest texture quality and in game settings all on max.

but the bad thing is nvidia cards have serious bugs with other settings of the game... i really wonder why crytech doesnt kick atis and nvidias butts for not relaesing at least ONE driver that renders all effects fine, no matter how low the fps are or whatever.
