what's powering the pelt? what's cooling it?

Good contact? Is the pelt being cooled well? Is it powered well?
You cant expect 0C but 40C is a bit high unless your water is like 50C.

even with 50c water he should get lower temps, no?
a 9800xt at that speed puts out around 80W of heat, maybe 90W when its modded...

It is powerd with 12v and is cooled with blackice dual 120 mm fans swifty 320gph pump.. seems to be making good contact.
The card has always been high temp. It read 70c stock cooling and speed.

It is this tec
Imax = 11.3 Amps
Qmax = 172 Watts
Vmax = 24.6 Volts
Delta Tmax = 69 (C)
Size = 40mm X 40mm X 3.2mm
It can take 24 volts and I am just running 12 volts though it.
Were is the best place to get a 24 volt power supply for this??
That should get it pretty cold right?

Yea, you need 24V on that XT.
The meanwell 240-24 should work for you.

They're difficult to find, but the meanwell 24v series are the best (I found mine used in the classifieds.)
It's very possible the pelt is being overwhelmed by your gpu's heat. A 172w pelt with 12v is about equal to an 80w pelt.

Be careful, if total heat production for your GPU exceeds the capabilities of the peltier you will insulate it and actually cook the GPU. I would not run it until you have a suitable PSU.

I have been running it of the enermax and at full load the GPU never gets over 40c tops and this is with a warm room so it should be fine. I have the temp displayed in my task bar so I have been watching it close. ;) Considering that it used to be 66c at stock speeds with stock cooling I think its doing OK.

what room and water temps?
and yeah, that tec at 12v is pretty much like an 80w tec, slighltly better, but not much.
so its only removing around 60W while your gpu produces around ...50W...
so no surprise here

How do you measure your temperatures ? with ATI drivers ?
My 9800 xt says 58 degrees celcius idle, and rivatunes says 38 degrees... with DD maze on it..
