Hi all!
Im in the market for a new P4 Chip but dont know what to go for.
I now have a P4 3.2GHz (SL7KC) but it will only do around 4.0GHz stable with Phase change cooling.
The components i have are:
Asus P4C800-Deluxe
1024MB Corsair XMS4000 PC4000 memory
Sapphire ATI Radeon x800XT
VapoChill LS for cooling
Water cooling for NB and GPU
So here comes the big question which P4 chip is the "ultimate" overclocker?
With that i mean which Chip will likely hit 4.5GHz and up on Phase change cooling system?
Cheers ;)

Really a tough call, I had great luck with my 3.0C SL6WK, which does 4.5 stable, some of the latest Prescotts are doing pretty well. Haven't seen many northwoods over 4.5 so I would say if you want to go higher you'll probably have to look at the Prescotts, latest stepping seems to typically increase your chances slightly. Still very heavily dependent on luck.

a P4C 3.0GHz SL6WU 30 cap, maybe?
or SL78Z (Core Voltage = 1.25V-1.400V) seems it has very good OCing potential
Does somebody know about P4C 3.4GHz FSB limits?
GL.

I already have a prescott 3.2GHz (SL7KC) that only will do 4GHz stable on Phase change cooling
I thought that the SL7KC woul be a golden chip but i have tried 2 difftent chips and they bouth stop at 4 GHz
So what 3.2GHz Chip would you recomend?

Thats the problem, the only way your going to be guaranteed 4.5+ is if you happen to find someone willing to part with a used one. I know a few members here have some excellent chips, once you get 100 posts you might want to try a post in the wanted section.
Other then the above my only thoughts are keep buying and trying, sell the ones that don't meet your expectations, and buy another. I know some people here have gone trhough many processors and still not struck gold, then others like myself get one the first try....

Thanks for the help but I am in a position where I can pretty mutch handpick CPU`s from a warehouse
So any suggestions on what I shal pick?

If you can afford it, 3.4EE. With a Mach II they will hit over 4GhZ easily and get more power per clock than any other pentium 4 chip. And if you are puttting them under a cascade, well, thats a different story *ahem* 5GhZ *ahem*.

in this case, I would hand pick the newest/latest stepping you can, and preferably a 30 capper, these aren't going to add alot to your chances, butI guess every little bit helps...

I saw a Prescott 3.0E, SL7KB this week.
It's a new stepping, if I'm correct?
The guy at store was going to test it, but unfortunately, he didn't. :( Is going to be build in a system tomorrow.
In that case, I might have bought it and tried it myself.

would like to try that one myself! even though I got pretty lucky on my P4C I've been really tempted to go on a quest for a 5ghz prescott :slobber:

Yeah,
but they're getting 2 new ones tomorrow, from the same distributor. Maybe they're new steppings too.

Im wondiring what prescott I shoul go for snice i allready have the newest one (SL7KC) and it is a dud.
Wich steppings does have 30 caps?
I dont think there is a Prescott that is a 30 capper, is there?
I would like to go for Prescott and not Northwood (based on anandtech`s cpu comparison test )
So I ask again wich Prescott 3.2GHz Should I go for?

Well,
I'm glad I didn't take it.
The guy at the store made a test yesterday, and it barely reached 3.7Ghz, even with 1.55V it wasn't stable (thx Rick)
The usual crapshoot, i'd say.
Guess I'll be sticking a little longer with my good 2.8 M0.

To bad, I really wish Intel would make getting a good processor easier and eliminate the 98% luck factor:mad:

strange, SL7KC is prescott 3.2e core which is exactly the same chip i'm using ! it uses stepping 4.
i also have a SL79L prescott 3.0e which uses stepping 3. i noticed underneath the caps are all the same but one compared to the 3.2e. the 3.2e has one smaller capacitor than the 3.0e which uses the bigger one.
