Hi all :)
It is time for me to upgrade my system after beeing disapointed of my Intel rig that would only do 4.0Ghz stable (3.2GHz/SL7KC, Asus P4C800-Deluxe and corsair xms4000 memory)
But anyway am wondring to get a A64 based rig now but since I alway been an Intel boy i dont know what components to choose.
I think im gooing for a new A64 Newcastle CPU 2800+, 3000+, 3200+
Witch of these are known to overklock most?
And most important of all witch Socket 754 MOBO is the best for overclocking??
Im using Vapochill LS for cooling
Cheers all

id say probably the 3000, because it isnt much slower than 3200, mot 3200's have 512k l2 now i believe so its not even asif getting 3200 is as worth it as it used to be imo, so a 3000 'cause theyre like £105 over here, 3200 is £160+ price difference isnt worth it anymore imo, so 3000
as for mobo ive heard most people recommending the gigabyte one i think it is but for the life of my cant remember the god damn model number thing, K8N something i think, i personally like my Asus K8V Deluxe, but probably not BEST for o/cing, best to get a NF3250GB based mobo for o/cing

There is no clear 250 winner at the moment. The MSI and ASUS ones both have major problems. The others have fewer problems but are not without some issues each.
The general consensus seems to be that the upcoming DFI 754 board will overclock the best. See the sticky in the xtreme overclocking forum. The drawback is that it is not due out till 3rd week of August or perhaps later. I have decided to wait till the DFI comes out before upgrading.

If I were you, I'd get a Gigabyte K8N Pro and a mobile 3200+ 1.4v off either excaliber or the egg. That outta clock like mad with your LS. Btw, I only suggest getting the nforce 3 150 over the new 250 because so far none of the 250 boards work with mobiles stock...

I'd wait for the DFI, that board should be a killer.
ATM the epox k8da3+/j and the gigabyte k8ns seem to be the best boards around (nf3-250), but the shuttle an50r and gigabyte k8n pro are also good for overclocking...
As for the cpu: I'd go for the 3200+ nc and some nice OCZ EB to go with it :D

3000+ with a VNF3-250 from Chaintech. Or wait for the DFI which will be the best

It all depends on how important overclocking is to you. No S754 board (even the DFI) will give you enough volts stock to go for the top 20 on the 2k1 ORB. They'll all need mods. If you are not interested in modding but still want the front page then you'll need an FX-53 (S940 or S939 will do it but the S939 is cheaper if you already have some good RAM) to do it. If you're not interested in the front page just get ANY Clawhammer (forget Newcastle as the lack of cache hurts their 3D performance terribly) and a K8NS Pro, max the volts out in the BIOS and slap that LS on the CPU. You'll be doing 2700-3000MHz 3D rock solid, and if you have a great VC you could hit the front page anyway. You will never get there with a Newcastle though.
