View Full Version : I Give u CO - OP for Doom 3 PC ( although it needs some work )

OK well after wanting CO-OP so badly i decided to see what i can work out and this is what i came up with, its very buggy but it has its moments and would be a good starting point for a proper "Co-Op patch"



ok well its kinda here now anyway check this out follow these intructions

1. server makes a Team DM game and waits for all players to join
2. once everbody is joined and playing server does typesd this in console

si_map game/mars_city2 ( press enter )
nextmap (press enter)

server will now load next map in single player mode where other people can join it

onces all players are in new game u join the same Team, be it red or blue
its very buggy and cut sceens make a mess of things but its something i have that maybe somebody else can improve upon

Cool, good idea...

unfortunately, I can't connect to anything, I made a server and had a friend connect to it, but it just sat there. Same thing the other way around with him making the server. Any ideas ?

Welcome to XS, there are a couple COOP patches around for Doom3....

Yea I tried using doing a multiplayer game but it just sat there with no connection in site!!

hmm, this works for me, but is buggy u may try loading different levels :)

IM currently working on a mod that gives u a sentry Droid to help u out during the gam :)

That would be cool. I think there is already a mod that does that. Search on fileplanet for it. I have a mod that makes u have a flashlight w/ ur pistol & a mod where the bodies dont just disapear when you shoot them. They actually stay like they shood.. and squirt all that good blood.

Must hunt that one down, they should have mounted flashlights on the guns, kind of annoying having to switch all the time...

very annoying, and very intense when something is attacking you in the pitch black while you struggle to shoot it while switching from flashlight to gun. Adds to the overall "spook" effect, IMO.

the co-op mod would be cool, if i could get it to work. After I load the level and he joins, it freezes almost instantly. gl in getting the bugs out. I look forward to playing it.

Tried the flashlight minion/sentry.. Installed and activated as indicated, when in game, use the command, the thing spawns and just sits there, won't move, follow, etc, does it need to be turned on or something?? lol....

the directions say to load co-op mode and spawn it.. but that doesnt work. It just sits there. Just load the sentry mod and spawn it. Worked for me.

yeah it works fine, but i need to figure out a way that u keep the Bot and start with one without having to type the command into the console

the lighting kinda sucks on my 9800pro. It doesnt look like this on my friends 6800.

At least they should have allowed us to use typical combat flashlight grip to use the flashlight in conjunction with the simple pistol, which would have been much more realistic. What kind of police-trained personnel (even military) would not wield a pistol in this fashion?

Start doom3, load sentry_minion mod, load a level, bring down console and type spawn char_sentry_flashlight. That should work right. If i followed the directions in the readme it wouldnt work. It says to load the co-op mod. I dont know why though. I hope you get it working. Although the sentry is pretty dumb. It wouldnt climb steps and would often stay in the last room. I would have to wait for it. I just used this mod to make a very intense timedemo.

Hmm Cow2kie :P i had Co-Op on my mind when i made that mod :P


oh and u can spawn more than 1 sentry, sop u can have a mini army of robots :P

hehe, not impatient, just giving up on this one for now, obviously I must be doing something wrong, but now I went from just spawning a dead sentry to the game wouldn't run, so just gonna qive up for now :D

i found what the problem is

So basically the server side PC is calculating the AI for the monsters, but the client side isnt recieving those AI comands from the server side. So when the server charcter is playing he see's the monsters and the monsters begin to attack. But when the client side comes into the room the monsters will start attacking him but he wont see them, only the server will. The client will only see the monsters sitting there lifeless. The client will still be damaged because the server side is calculating damage among all the clients.

Makes sense, there must be a client side AI option somewhere. This will lag servers unfortunatly

and another recent discovery

There's another major issue which I've discussed with some of the well known Doom III modders in that there's no close PDA button in multiplayer. If you walk over a PDA in co-op and it opens you will not be able to continue the game. From what I've been told, co-op mods have largely been canned until the *** is released. Fixing co-op at the moment would take a long time compared with a matter of hours once the *** is out.

I cant say what *** is but umm yeah

It's kinda hard to compare lighting in the two screenshots cuz they are two different points in the game where the lighting would be expected to look different.

Can you post two screenshots from the two different cards at the same location in the game?
