Ok, when I had my 2500+, GA7N400 Pro 2, and 9800 Pro I could run this game with no problems for as long as I wanted.
Then, I decided to upgrade to a A64 3000+ and K8NS Pro. After I formatted and installed everything, FFXI would crash after 1-50 min of play. It either just goes to a black screen, or it loops sound with static video for a few seconds, then vpu recover tries to kick in, and I have to restart. First I thought it was the PSU, so I upgraded to a Fortron 530 W, didn't change anything. Next I played around with video driver's and such, didn't help anything (though I can't remember if I tried the 3.10's again). Reformatted and reinstalled everything, nothing. Upgraded gfx card to x800 xt, nothing. Changed mobo to vnf3, nothing.
I've got the cpu and gfx card water cooled, so I don't think heat is a problem, unless the southbridge gets real hot...
When it crashes, sometimes vpu recover kicks in, and it almost gets to the desktop. It says the video driver quit responding, or something like that.
I can run 3dmark01 and 03 without any problems, and halo seems to work fine as well.
