What kind of results would a 3.0C oc'd to 3.6 1:1 have compared to a A64 CH at say 2.4. My basic question is whether to go for a A64 system and try to oc it or stay with an intel system. My first 3.0C did 3.6 without effort but i couldnt do it 1:1 bc of my mem. Right before i got some PC4000 the chip died and the intel replacement wont oc at all. I would like to stay intel bc i'm fairly familiar with it but i want some pretty good performance too.

i have a 3.0c too that OC's upto 4.2 benchable (under prommie), yet im still moving to A64 atm.
i think a 2.4 A64 will still beat a 3.6 intel northwood. but just slightly.

In gaming, a 2.4 A64 should steadily beat a 3.0C at 3.6. If I remember right a 2.6xp is right around a 2.4c @ 3.4. I'll know for sure soon enough. I have an a64 rig and a 2.8c rig getting set up in the next couple of days. The A64 is 754/512cache though, which will seriously be to it's disadvantage.

Well on air how high would you expect i could go? I know it varies but what is the average? I still think i want to go intel but the A64 just wont leave my head.

Heh, It will be more of comparison between 3.2c oc'd to 3.7 vs A64 new castle 3.2+ oc'd to 2470 (for time being... I am still waiting for clip for block).
Windows boot up, using application back and forth right after boot up, etc -> slight edge to Intel. The hyperthreading really do work. I never noticed it when I got it but realized it in few instances when it was gone. (previously I had 2.4b oc'd to 3.76ghz with no hyperthreading).
Gaming seems to like A64 much better. Playing UT2004, my avg FPS is about 5-10% higher at least. Quite frankly, though, I can't really tell diff other than the FPS being higher :P It was well over 70fps average to begin with :)
Maybe doom 3 will show more difference but I don't have the p4 hooked up anymore :P

Yes a64 just demolishes intel with Doom 3. I was amazed.
No HT is easy to take care of. go to task manager and adjust items importance. Default settings mp3's stutter like hell on an a64 when gaming. Turn my mp3 player's priority up and everything plays fine with no noticable performance loss in the game. As rarely as I need to multitask, HT really seems kind of pointless to me. (Especially since I'm on win2k which I hear absolutely blows with HT.)
My stock FX-53 with oc'ed XT-PE is on par with my 4.3Ghz dry ice P4 with oc'ed XT-PE in 3D Mark 2001

If i had the money i would jump all over a FX-53 but the $600 i save by going with say a 3.0C i can buy a 6800U or a XT PE!

I hear you. I was building a 2.8c and a 2800+ rig. But I got my hands on a nice 3200+ NC so it will probably be my main rig, unless this 2.8c shows me a miracle. (If my damn P4p800 ever gets here). fx and ee are for loons and republicans.
