View Full Version : Doom3 - Who has tested the game???
I would like to know if anybody here has played the game... And what resolution and detail level + amount of AA/AF it was playable at...
I know about the hardOCP benches but id like to see some with an OC'ed system... Often 6800U was running 1600x1200 with like 56 avg frames... Wonder if people could get it higher if they OC the whole machine...
So anybody???

i'd really didn't like the Doom3 screenshots. I thought FarCry looked better graphically. The shadows and textures seem far better in Farcry.

I've played a few levels in, very smooth, occasionally upon entering a new room with a lot of stuff / characters it will stutter for a sec to 'load' everything, but then its fine :)

Do you guys know how to install it in Win2k3? The Installation Routine keeps on saying it will only run in Win2K or XP even though I turned on Compatibility Mode for every executable I could find.
I bet that there will be a patch for that issue right next week. I mean how come that Id Software doesn't support Win2K3???
Btw.: I already ordered it twice... ;-)
Update: Over here (http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdoom/topic.asp?fid=5733&tid=1438516) I found a working fix.
I copied the data of the first CD into a directory called "Doom 3", replaced the Doom 3.msi with the new one, copied all the pakXXX.pk4 files into "..\Doom 3\Setup\Data\base" and started the installation...

1GB of ram running at DDR400. FPS i'm not sure yet, i'll try and find out today...
Level loads are just as quick as FarCry, and when 'reloading' a level, almost instant.
As for brightness, the gamma levels while playing the game are higher, so its not as dark as it looks...

I am having problems like crazy. Mainly, I can't even get past the main menu because it is soooo rediculously slow. I mean, my mouse moves about once every 15 secs.
For my system , it recommended medium settings and 640x480. The beginning movie is very slow, the menu is unusable.
I had the 56.42 version that was on guru3d that was tweaked for very fast and low quality, and I thought maybe it was too old, so I got the newest driver in the 60's, its still the same very slow game.
My system might be in my sig but here it is if it isn't. Athlon XP 1700 @ 1.8GHZ, 512MB DDR @ 320. Albatron TI4200P Turbo 128MB. At least 10GB free on HDD, just really really slow in this game. I can play wolfenstein at highest res and quality settings with antialaising on at highest settings and get better than 60 fps.
I got directx 9.0c, does it not like c? or does it like b better?? anyone have any answers. I should be able to at least get a little bit of a playable game.
It took about 20 mins, but i finally got the menu to low quality and the text is sooo fuzzy I can't even see it.

WooooHooooo it's out finaly and I have my copy. As far as cpu clock goes I didn't have to cut back at all, I was able to run my 24/7 clocks of 257x11.5=2.952 The vid card on the other hand couldn't handle it artifact free at 475/398 wich was what the ATI tool came up with and I have been using for my 24/7 clocks, I had to back the 9800XT down to 450/384 to clean it up.
I run pertty smooth at 1156x864 and the highest detail settings, but I get a little lag on door openings.

Turn on the flashlight and freakin look around. It's an environment desinged to SCARE THE     OUT OF YOU. Hence, things hide in the shadows waiting... only in this game many of the shadows are so dark you really can't see into them. Just like real life, go figgure.

So far, great game! I had to resort to running it on my workstation (2600+/Ti4600/512mb) compared to my actual gaming rig. (Should'nt of let my roommates use it to play d/l dvd's on the tv). Even at 1024x768 with medium settings it runs great! I get a little lag here and there but no biggie.
That damn flashlight erks me off. Why the hell can't you shoot while holding the flashlight.
Oh well great game at any rate!

Ok I got the game about a a week ago and I had some major issues when I got. I was seeing these red and white dots on my screen. They where small but plenty of them sometimes not to bad. I checked everywhere for answers and I found out if u underclock your card they will go away. Well I never even overclocked it. I turned it down wham it works no probs. My question is do i have to do this everytime for this game. This seems a little ridiculous. But I do admit the game is awesome. Go check out my screenshots at my site. www.zyeoxshack.com
I heard about that also...
You can underclock it... But ALOT of people fixed it by turning off fast writes... From the BIOS and if that didnt work then go from 8x AGP to 4X AGP... You dont lose performance but 90% the red and white goes away...

Im playing here @ ULTRA Quality, 1280x1024, no aa, no af. You dont even need any aa or af at ULTRA Quality in this game, it looks so perfectly fine without it, especially af, which is enabled automatically to some degree with ULTRA Quality mode. All this on a 6800 GT @ 420/1100. FPS is somewhere in the 50-60s all the time.

I have played it flawlessly at 1024x768 on high details
I'm using my current hardware set up w/ DirectX9.0C and 4.7 Catalyst Drivers.
I've played once for 3 hours straight and not one glitch, not one artifact and not one hang up.
Sorry for all the other people having problems, because this is one hell of a freaky game, but it actually get's some-what *boring* later on in certain missions. But regardless, I love the shadows and how dark the mofo is. It's so bizarre how far this game went from Doom.

If you unpack all the .pk4 files in the doom3 base folder with winrar, it speeds up the game A LOT. Basically eliminates that jerkiness associated with texture uncompression. If you do the usecachemegs tweak along with this, DOOM 3 runs alot better. Also, if you have an nv40 card, the 65.62 beta drivers help a lot too.
