I think i need to get something a little better then my propane torch fitted with a MAPP tank.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not spend too much because I'm a student and lack money, but I'd like somthing that will work reasonably well.

Also, is there a flux for copper phosphoruos braze that I should be useing?

mapp/oxy torch, but mapp should be fine for regualr brazing, are you using those bronze brazing rods? Dynaflow melts in seconds for me and im using regualr mapp and a mapp torch

No good if your brazing rod melts, you need to get the "area" you're brazing to temp to melt the brazing rod.

:D

I heard of people these torches are much better than regular mapp torches. Mapp/oxy torches are sold for around 100dollar / euro. A new OXY bottle (it's a disposable bottle, 130bar 1liter) costs around 20-25 dollar/euro.

have you brazed direct die blocks yet with your map gas torch
i found it takes for eva to get the copper blocks to heat up so i can braze them

Well someone said that using bricks (like 3 walls) around the block when brazing helps to keep the heat at the block. You could also use a gas grill/stove to keep the block hot enough.

I got the MAPP at the Acehardware on Tanque Verde + Catalina Highway actually. Its 9 bucks a tank IIRC. For now I'm useing a propane torch I got there ages ago w/ the MAPP tank. It works ok but gets hot if I'm not careful and takes FOREVER to get anything hot enough to braze.

Dynaflow melts in seconds for me and im using regualr mapp and a mapp torch

Are you using flux as well or is that not needed? I'm having trouble getting the braze to wick in properly. Most of the pipe draws it right in, but some spots look questionable to me. Not sure if its lack of heat or lack of flux.

I'm planning on using fuel grade propane as the gas BTW. Cheap and easy. Later once I get all the bugs out (and I know I"m not going to vent all my expensive gas accidentally) I'll probably look at R404 or something like that.

Theres a refrigeration shop out by the university. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet though. I'm probably just going to order most of my stuff from rparts and scavenge the rest (compressor, gas, condenser).
