View Full Version : vMod 6800Gt
Anyone know if there is a guide how to vMod a 6800GT? It may only be the vCore and vMem that differs from a 6800Ultra, right?!
Maybe is as simpel as soldering an extra molex to the card like at the 6800 Ultra will solve that problem?
Any ideas?

Post pics of the card please.
Well I actually I havn´t got mine yet. But the design att Sparkle 6800GT is the same as at all other 6800 cards since nVida manufacture all cards at this point.

You can clearly see the place where the second molex is conected at the 6800 Ultra (compare below)

What do you think? Thanx

bump, you can't just solder on a molex connector it's missing some other things as well. But I still want a vmod for a gt.

If you compare all the other brands 6800LE/NU/GT/U cards PCB layout, you'll find the 6800LE/NU are all pretty much identical except the way the hardware ID/pipelines bridges are configured on the PCB, and of course the bios with different software masked units and default clock speeds.
With the GT/Ultra cards, an extra molex power connector and at least two extra capacitors are present from the Ultra's PCB (to spread the power load and keep the heat down?), many have found the back of their LE/NU/GT cards (the capacitors etc) gets very hot when running at or above ultra speeds with the full 16x1:6 pipelines/VP running.
I have a vantec spectrum card cooler and a 92mm side case fan blowing air right across the cards PCB so it shouldn't be a problem for me on my modded 6800LE flashed to a 6800NU and running with 16x1:6 @1.5v, so I'd add a fan or two to keep the PCB temps down before the additional GPU/memory volt mods! :stick:
Now someone go type up a 'generic' GPU/memory volt mod for the 6800 cards and post it here.

well there is a vmod for the 6800 ultras, would it work with a gt as well?

Not sure since I don't know if the voltage regulator chips on the 6800LE/NU and 6800GT/Ultra cards are all the same type or not...
We're gonna need Hi-Res images of the back of the cards PCB's which would make it very easy for us to identify and mark the points on the images for people to soldier and glue their wired ~50k-100k pots on the board.
My digicam sucks bigtime using close range macro mode.

Not sure if the camera I got is any good at close ups. I ordered a gt to replace this 6800le I got. Once it gets here I'll see if I can get any pics.
Would the single molex limit the voltage or would it be unstable or what?

Take a pic of the back of the card, the bigger the better.
I don't think I'm going to be getting a gt right now, stuck with my crap 6800le for now cause I don't got the money.

Here's a picture of the back the Albatron 6800GT ! hopefully someone know how to Vmod this card ( I don't have my camera with me to take a picture of my own Graphique card, so I found this picture on a website hope it will help

vgpu can be changed w/ a bios flash.

I got this PNY 6800GT and for stock it OC's well 420/1150 but I run it at 400/1100 for long gaming sessions... I was thinking about taking off the HSF and cleaning their thermal goop, replacing it with AS5 and then volt modding it up to 1.4 and see how far it will go for a stable "all time gaming" clock. I have never seen a PNY Verto on a blue PCB like this one... it's got their rev3 bios (5.40.02.15.51) and ran it with a leadtek bios (5.40.02.32.00) for a while, until I started getting random lockups... I reverted to my old bios and am thinking that vMod would be the best way to get max peformance out of this card...
here are some images of it --

sorry about the flash on this one

anyone have any experience with these vertos with the blue PCB? It's got this huge copper bar running the top of the card, like a guard or something... it's pretty weird. Anyhew -- just seeing if anyone has any recommendations before I get under way. :)
PS: when I edited the leadtek bios to work with my card I saw an option for the voltage, but I guess that was for core only... is it safer to just do that one and leave the memory alone unless I want to put the extra molex and caps on? What about the extra two mosfets? anyone bother putting those on for a vMod?

Yes I do. Currently my card is at 456/1215 on 3DMark05 (ORB is down atm no link sry), stock 1.3v. My goal is 470 1.4v. Here is a great thread about 6800GT overclocking: 6800Gt ocing guide (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=52127). If you cant hit 440 on stock voltages, then you're dealing with a cooling issue.

A man can always hope :)
It all matters how high you can get your clocks. Once you pass 435/1200 with a GT, it will start outperforming a U at stock clocks. If you give it proper cooling most GTs will do 440 on stock volts, but as it always goes with ocing you could be unlucky and get a dud. My Verto did 425 on stock cooling and voltages, which is way on the high end.
