View Full Version : Delay timer needed with TEC setup?

How long will it take the CPU to get to a stable "idle" temperature following applied power to the TEC? Is a delay timer needed to prevent allowing a clean boot? I can only assume that systems that have an aggresive OC will need to get down in temperature before the boot process begins. Is this true with TEC setups?

I guess nobody knows. I am assuming the answer is yes. Anybody?

With a TEC, anything over 15seconds or so should be fine, seeing as how the cpu is under virtually no load until you hit windows, and at that point it's still very low.

So yes or no...needed or not. It takes me about 10 seconds just to get to the point where Windows starts to load.

PM mdzcpa (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=147) He was using a TEC to cool his P4EE, I'm sure he would be able to answer anything you may ask...

I think sandman already did. ;) Ideally you want a delay... a small one, but a delay nonetheless. I'm going for my first setup, so it is just what i hear that it only takes a few moments. But I do have a prommie and stuff so I know cold first, power on 'puter second. Turn your setup on with PC's power strip, power up computer after - That's cheap.

Well 20 sec works for me you can boot system and hold in the restart switch or hook a switch and wait 20 secs or you can get one of these http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Category_Code=Electric&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DTK which works good.

Well I had my system hooked up to a relay so that everything (pump, tec, radiator fans, computer) started at the same time, it worked ok but a better idea would be to start the tec first and wait about 60 seconds for it to get cold (yes it takes that long to reach the min temp) and then turn on the computer.

Well thats what you are doing when you hold in the reset switch the cpu is not powered at that point and this delay does exactly that shorts the reset switch for the desired time from 1sec to like 6 hr delay. All fans, pwr spl, tec pwr sup, wtr pmp are all on till you say when...
