View Full Version : Thinking about a TEC setup...

Here is my current setup (see sig for system details):

Thermochill HE120.2 radiator
Dual 120x38mm Delta fans (~300CFM) pushing out
Eheim 1250 pump
PolarFLO TT waterblock for CPU
PolarFLO Universal NB/GPU block from 9800 Pro (waiting for X800 XT PE)
T-line for fill and bleed
All 1/2" ID tubing with pure water

I would like to see my 3.4EE ES go higher but now believe that heat is holding me back. The Swiftech blocks look nice in that the kit takes care of all of the condensation proofing for me. The MCW5002-PT and the MCW50-T look like winners to me. Do I need to do any further coatings to my system to prevent problems (outside of that included with the kits)? Can I run both of these off of a single meanwell PS (S320-12)? It seems that I should be able to. Is it possible to TEC cool the CPU and not the GPU in the same loop?

Looking forward to hearing ideas...

The meanwell will run a 226 watt TEC fine and an MCW50-T will run off a quality PSU powering your system as long as it has a good 12V rail. The MCW50-T probley is not enough to cool an X800XTPE though.

When I had a MCW50-T on my 9800XT, I changed the 80W pelt to a 172W pelt(Same sizes at 40mm x 40mm) but I used a 24v PSU in order to cool the GPU enough and even then I had -16C water running through the Swiftey.

As you Probably Know, I had to go to Phase Change to get where I Wanted, But you should get good results with the TEC's.

My idea now is to remove the waterblock from my video card and go back to air cooling (now a 9800 Pro, will be a X800XT PE). This way my radiator and pump can concentrate 100% on the CPU and TEC. I will run some sort of dedicated PSU for the TEC, probably a Meanwell, something I can mount to the exterior of my case and have the TEC wires meet in the back. I should probably run some sort of relay but and not sure what kind I will do yet.
