Secondary/home rig consisits of me old Abit KX7 333 mobo, its a gem, love it to bits. But I wanna get it up to 200 fsb bench stable is fine, jsut feel the need lol!
Board seems to max at ~190 atm, and this issue is with the IDE controller. Above ~ 185 things start to slow down and crap out HDD wise. Have an old maxtor ATA 33 that is ok to 189, no crappage, but a 5 min boot time is just stupid. So any ideas on getting the board above this (short of a 32/64mhz controller)
Are some hdds more resilant to the high mhz the others? Its the raid version, so maybe the highpoint controller would give a few more mhz.

Have some 2700 ram thats good for 200 fsb on ~ 3.0v ish, so a Vdimm (and vtt if required) mod would be nice as well, maybe a vdd if there is one? The board overvolts by ~ 0.09 on vdimm giving a max of 2.94 (need to set a meter on the board to double check) vcore is fine, this overvolts by ~ 0.05 and the chip is unlocked so thats not a problem

So guys, let the ideas flow please, would love to get it benchie stable at ~ 200 :)
Thanks

I had one (it still is sitting in my closet somewhere) but never had it near 200mhz (maybe 180ish)

I remember a few "lucky" people that got theirs over 200mhz but there were not very many............ I think finding a hard drive that can run 20% over spec might be the bugger.

My old one is sitting in my wifes computer. Using XMS3500 it was happy at 200@2.75v(metest/prime stable), without a volt mod it use to run up to 211 3dmark stable. I did not get IDE problems with the kx7 unlike the kg7, the HD's always corrupted at ~170MHz.

hmm interesting, might try and borrow me bros ram to test then, that could be whats limiting it, but IDE seems the most likey. What hdd's were you guys using to get 200? What bios did you run as well?

Seagate ATA IV works well with high FSB.

Still worked at 200MHz on KR7A (100MHz AGP/50MHZ PCI). Dont know if the newer Seagate models are that good.

My KX7-333R did up to 231fsb :D

I have a 3dmark link at 221FSB max timings using a Corsair 3200C2 BH-6 :)

I always connected my Maxtor/later IBM drives to its RAID controller (RAID 0) and those Maxtors did not do 175MHz with the KR7A-R... the divider helped a lot and the HPT controller did the rest. The onboard controller could only do around 170 or so.

I could run my KX7-333 to rock solid 213 Mhz FSB without mods. I still run my KR7-133 at 175 Mhz FSB at a 4:2:1 ratio and CPU Fast Command Decode Command "Ultra"! It's bull when people say these bords won't take the PCI bus to extremes. They do....

I run Maxtor drives (exclusively) because high PCI bus speeds seem to not affect them. I used to use another brand, but after two in a row dying for no reason:D ... I switched three years ago and no more problems.

Ok will give the highpoint controller a go, thanks SAE. Stuck 2k3 server on a maxtor today and it crapped out at 170, so back to 2kpro!
What bios are/were you using? Are there any modded ones available?
SAE, was that board stock? must have been vmodded?

I only had to do the Vdimm mod... BH-6 loves voltage ;) 3.45V is what they needed.

Bios-wise I am no help, I don't remember the right numbers... but I know there was something with 6 and 7 in it (7M?, 6G?... dunno :p:)

They were kinda modded, but they only added another highpoint bios...

I dunno if there were any hidden settings they revealed.
