Okay, I decided to disable APIC and see if that gets me past my wall of 220 FSB.
Well, in My computer is says APIC uniproccessor computer......dosn't that mean its disabled? But when i disable it in the BIOS, the system wont boot.

You have to first convert your system to a Standard PC first then disable apic. It should work then.

how do I convert my system to a Standard PC?

You dont have to re-install windows to turn APIC off .

In the device manager open up "computer" and change "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" . You have to select " Dont search . I will choose the driver to install" to get the different options. Then reboot after you change it over.

Windows will then load OK with ACPI still enabled , but APIC will be off. Dont choose "Standard PC" because that will turn off ACPI aswell.

I have used this method many times before with no problems .

Driver rollback can be used to re-load APIC on or you can use a system restore point.
Also you do not need to turn off APIC in the BIOS , WinXP does it all .
Cheers :)

great:D
but now I need to boot my rig, and it wont boot into windows.
How do I use a restore point without booting?
It gets halfway through the boot process, then restarts.
I tried repairing, dosn't help.
thanks

Have you pressed F8 when booting and used the "last known configuration that worked" option ? Can you enter into safe mode?

buff

I have used F8, wont let me do anything.

Try to ebable APIC again on BIOS and you will be able to enter on Windows again...

buff
07-14-2004, 06:38 AM
nope. Wont boot all the way. Nothing I do helps.
Does anybody know hw to use system restore in the command prompt with the recovery console?

Dagalidis

This is very strange...
BTW what messages did you get by windows when booting ?
Maybe something else happend since your last fine boot....
Try to make a windows bootable disk and make a bootfix to your bootable disk...
Im sorry but i think you cant make restoration without entering on safe mode but i am not sure about this...

buff
07-14-2004, 06:56 AM
I already tried bootfix, dosn't help
gonna try a few things more things.......then just reformat:(

Mickey Padge
07-14-2004, 09:19 AM
Very strange indeed. Have you tried a big underclock of your setup to see if that helps?
I never ran into any issues when I changed the HAL to APIC on or off.
Was this a direct result of changing the device manager setting? Or unrelated to the APIC issue altogether.
Cheers

I had the same thing when I disabled apic in bios. Cmos clear fixed it.

buff
07-14-2004, 11:41 AM
tried that......anymore idea's before i reformat?

Lithan

My guess then is that you probably installed the wrong "Computer" driver. Try a repair install.

buff

finished reformatting.........
but it dosn't help very much with my FSB issue.
Still cant get 240 3d stable.

Try loosen the alpha timing

I had to do a vdimm, vdd booster and vtt voltage mod before I hit 240fsb stable with my NF7-S rev2.
Both boards I have had would not go over 220ish at all. Although I was trying to run a high vcore and multiplier at the same time, which is a no go most of the time with the NF7-S.

I run 240x11.5 now with the above mods and APIC off.
My PSU kicks out 3.6v on the 3.3v rail which keeps my vdimm stable at 3.3v.

The NF7-s is a good board, but you have to really work the board if you want high fsb/vcore and CPU clock at the same time.
Cheers :)

Speaking of annoying....

I finally got around to testing setting the alpha ram stuff on my old NF7-S.... boots 240Mhz 11,2,3,2.0 on 2x 256M CH5 @3.25Vdimm.

By setting to 6,5,6,3,3,5,6 the board ran 245Mhz 3D stable, up from 240Mhz. This on Mickey's old D10 ;-)

Need to settle on the best bios, then mod it for desired alpha values, and correct cpu-disconnect settings, and AGP latency's, etc.

Hehe :) The good ol' MP_D10 still doing the rounds ;)

uwackme could you direct me to the files needed for WPCredit on the Nforce2? As I have not had/used that prog for what seems like forever :D

I take it that IS how you are tweaking the ram timings?

Cheers :)

D10 wont work with me.......any good bioses with alpha yaddayadda and bios AGP latency settings based on D24

H Oda himself has a rev 1.4 WPCREDIT, while WPCRSET is still rev 1.2 that is floating around.

I guess a D10 with 4247sata, and alpha 6,5,6,3,3,5,6, and cpudisconnect as per NVidia's latest spec would be cool....

Two versions... CPC on and CPC off.

None of the other bios's on my board can hold a candle to D10 original. Its weird, any newer bios elements...bpl's, sip's, etc just cause a huge drop in max FSB and stability. But on the old D10 it screams!!!

See what you can do Ticcy!!!!

Thanks guys :) I feel a bit of tweaking coming on ;)

The default timings on the Abit for the extra timings are quite tight, but does loosening them decrease performance alot? Or just increase stability?

Any chance of a version of D23-SUBZER0-4247 with relaxed alpha timings? It is better to start off loose and then tighten rather than the other way round :)

Thanks again

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICKEY PADGE..

yay happy Bday

Ive gotten rid of the last bit of sound dropout by upping my PCI latency to 64 instead of the default 32. Just so you know....

On a hot day Farcry would go silent after a couple hours, no sign of it since going to 64clocks. On DFI you need to use WPCRSET

bus0 dev8 fun0 offset 1B value 40.

How did you know it was my Birthday? Does an icon pop up or something?

I spoke too soon, high humidity/temp still has sound go out after heavy use...only in Farcry.... I can AArmy forever and no problem.

Beginning to think its DirectX sound fking up with Farcry settings....will investigate further.
