Welp, I finally decided its time to go for this lame arse test. So when I was out today lookin through a book store, decided to go ahead and get a book to look through and learn what I dont know.
Now, Im sure Ill have several questions through this, but the first one is, How do I know I got a decent book to study through? There were aceloads of these things to choose through, how do I know wether or not I got a good one?
Its called ~ Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PCs: A+ Certification Study Guide.
Anyone know this book? Its cost wasnt too bad @ 35 bucks. Ive already spent some time reading through it but got tons more to read still... heh

So, opinions? Thoughts? Better book ideas?

Keep in mind, cash severely limited, so buying all of them just aint an option!~!

I used the A+ Certification for Dummies book by Ron Gilster $29.99 US. This was before the test changed a year or so ago.:D

I use the book of Hard Knocks;)
No seriously though, I'm going to be taking the same route soon. Basically just for the curiousity though. Computers are just a hobby to me. But now I know of several books to look for :)

i should take it just so i could brag :D

The new test is pretty up to date, the old one was as you say..way out of date.

Hey IFMU, how you coming along with your book? I finally got mine in:) Its: Pete Moulton a+cert. & pc repair 2nd edition. I'm currently on page 80, it's going to take me a little while to read this one, it's about 450 pages. And I've found myself having to read parts of it more than once to fully comprehend it. Just curious to how you're doing with it... :)

Lady, A+ cert is for learning the basics about pc repair, windows, and basic languages :)

It's a certification for hardware technicians. It just shows that you know how a computer works and how to troubleshoot. There used to be two tests, but I took the tests three years ago, so that might have changed.

Back in the day, Compaq used to require that any technicians servicing their products under warranty be A+ certified. Don't know if that is still the case since HP took them over.

I'm still trying to get past all the boring common knowledge stuff at the beginning of the book. I know most all of what I'm reading right now, but don't want to skip it, afraid I'll miss something I didn't know. So, for now, it's about 15 - 30 pages or so at a time, then it's the head hitting the desk w/ zzz's to follow;)

Compaq has their own certification test now..required for the Desktop guys where I work. They do take you on a river boat cruise at the end of the year..get ya drunk and give ya prizes.;)

To represent Compaq, you'd have to be drunk;) And the prizes are just a little extra icing on the cake:D
