ok i dont have any games on this comp to test this on, but when i run 3dmark01 on my comp, during the game tests it sometimes slows down to 3fps and 4fps and stuff, and then at the end it either turns blue and crashes, or quits explorer.exe and u cant hit ctrl alt delete to open it back up,
when these super slowdowns occur my HD makes clicking noises, so i think its that
in my setup i have new ram, new card (9800pro) and a new HD, so it could be any of those
i think its the HD, its a SATA HD, and ive never ran one before, so i dunno
i have cat4.7s, and the morphus video extreme chipset drivers, and DX9b, so all that stuff should be gravy
any ideas?????

I would think it's the HD, but I believe 3DMarks loads the whole test into the memory so hard driver performance doesn't slow down the test. Hmmm I can't think of what it is..

Hmm, faulty hard-drive when caching tests into RAM? I got clicking noises on my old HD and it happened whenever I made a HDD intensive operation, which in turn clicked and shut down the HDD making the PC totally freeze up. Try a different HDD.

well it doesnt happen during car lo and hi, it only happens with dragon, and nature, and i didnt test with lobby.
it makes a clicking noising every 10 seconds or so and coincides with the slowing down of the framerates

Hmm, maybe it loads the parts as it goes rather than precaching the test. Tried with different HDD yet?

ok im sure its the SATA HD, or the controller
i booted up with windows on a PATA drive, and left the SATA conected, and it did the same weird stuff
then i booted just with the PATA drive and no SATA and it 3dmarked just fine
so whats the matter?

Hmm, try a different SATA drive to rule out that it isn't a bad HDD. And try running it with the sata not powered up so you can rule out that it isn't the controller.

if i run the SATA plugged in but no power that will test the controller??? how?, it wont be able to see it if theres no power to it.
anyways i dont really have another drive to test it on, i could prolly borrow one sometime tho

Just use a different HDD altogether then. SATA or PATA. But I would just say get a new HDD. It is probably a bad HDD.
