i just finished assembling my new comp and nothing happens when i hit the power switch. I have rechecked everything in the case, and the motherboard seems to be getting power from the power supply since the mobo light is on. Whats causing my comp not to turn on? Is it at all possible because of a bad power supply? What should i do?
my comp specs are > p4 2.8c , intel d875pbz mobo, sapphire 'atlantis' 9600 and antec true 430 PSU

Thanks in advance

did you connect the on/off switch to the right pins?

On/Off Switch
Pin Signal In/Out Description
6 FPBUT_IN In Power switch
8 Ground Ground

yes i did, i triple checked that it wasnt the pins , so could all this be caused by a short on the mobo, if so should i disassemble the whole comp and start over?

ok now i have managed to get the comp to turn on..i just loosened a screw on the mobo.......but it seems like my IDE drives arent getting any power, including the hard drive and it says to reboot the comp and select a boot device, but i cant do that cause theres no power to any of the IDE drives

disconnect all power connectors on all the drives except one. test it with only one drive. if it works move on to another drive.

ok i think things are getting better now the cd/rw drive ejects when i tell it to and so does the dvd drive, BUT, the hard drive still isnt turning on w/ the rest of the comp, i have checked all PSU connections but its still stays the same, how can i get the hard drive to turn on and how can i get my comp to take me to the BIOS screen and hopefully get into windows xp setup?

Umm, its quite obvious you have a standoff, or other metal contact shorting your board... If your run into problems rule number one.... Remove everything NOT needed to get the board to post, and set it up on a non conductive surface for testing, in other words, no case, single stick of memory, vid card, no drives.. Then add one component at a time, still outside case...

You will also need to check the Board mounting standoffs to see if one is contacting your board, or its something else.... Hopefully you didn't permanently damage the board...

ok i removed all standoffs that could possibly short the mobo, so that isnt a problem anymore.......and i managed to get into the BIOS screen now, but it cant detect my cd/dvd drives and my hard drive still wont turn on, however it CAN detect the floppy drive. Basically everything is set up and good to go except for the fact that my IDE drives arent detected. what do i do next?

Connecting a single drive? clear CMOS, make sure master/slave is set correctly, and in right cable position, also some boards are fussy about how you have jumpers selected for IDE devices... try both Cable Select and master/slave, don't try more then bare minimum until you get it running...

Can't help with board specific questions as I've never used Intel branded boards..

Don't forget you really should just have this board sitting on your table/desk, and it shouldn't even be seeing the inside of a case at this time....
