Well, my computer has been running fine for many months (specs are in sig). Suddenly today it locks up and there's a high pitched squeeling. I shut it off immediately. I go to start it back up, and now it doesn't do anything. No post, no beeps. Everything gets power, the fans on the board start spinning... The light on the cd-rom just stays lit the whole time. It did post once, but then nothing happened, I didn't even see the screen for the bios.
I tried clearing the cmos to see if that helped, I went so far as to remove the CMOS battery, unplug the ATX power connector, reset CMOS, and try it but nothing. I switched out video cards, nothing. I took out the memory to see if it beeped, nothing. The only thing I can't take out is the cpu (I'd have to completely remove the entire motherboard, which in my system is like a 2 day process, heh). I did notice a little bit of condensation on the back of the video card, but I don't think that happened until I left the TEC on with the system off for like 20 mins. Either way, if it was the video card, when I switched it out it should have worked. I removed the Prom head and resealed it just to make sure. Is it possible there was some condensation around the cpu? If so, do you think letting it dry out would get it to start back up again? Any other suggestions, I'm desperate.

Well everything gets power like I said... is it possible that it could still get power with a dead psu?

Remembered I had another Intel board lieing around so I took the cpu and memory and psu and fired it all up with the new board. It seems to be working. So it has to be the motherboard... I wonder if it's dead, cmos is broken, or it got wet or what...

thats is very odd, the EXACT same thing happened to me about three weeks ago.
I was running a 3.2c @ 4 ghz with a p4c800 deluxe. I was afk in star wars galaxies for about 3 hours. I went to check on it & my system had frozen, I couldn't move my mouse, & there was a clicking noise. Upon further examination, I found my CPU, mobo, & video card to all be dead.
I also noticed a brown spot on the back of my mobo where the cpu is. I presume that its corrosion.
that is quite odd that the same exact thing happened to us.
i have a prommy btw

Hrm, actually it appears as if my soundcard is causing the trouble, system works fine without it, but when I put it in it won't boot.

And now the soundcard works too... this is really weird.

Yeah, mine does that sometimes.
At one point, it suddenly wouldn't boot past the Windows XP startup logo. I switched Video cards to a 5800 Ultra (The Dustbuster :D), that didn't work either. I then tried a GeForce3 Ti200, that worked. On putting back in my GeForce4 Ti4600 again, it then worked fine.
Guess they just like playing their games on the silly humans sometimes.
